Museveni promises better social services to Ugandans in education and health sectors

The government has announced plans to improve service delivery in health and education sectors to enable Ugandans be better resources for national development.

President Yoweri Museveni says the government is planning a five year health sector strategic plan focusing on delivery of the minimum healthcare package that include maternal and child health, nutrition, prevention management and control of communicable diseases. He says the government has embarked on rehabilitation of different hospitals in the country. Some like Nebbi, Tororo, Rushere, Masafu, Bukwo, Kyenjojo among others are to be upgraded to general hospital.

Delivery his state of the nationa address on Tuesday, Museveni said the government is setting up satellite hospitals attached to Mulago national referral hospital in Kawempe, Naguru and Kiruddu in order to decongest the overstretched Mulago.

He says the government is to continue addressing staff payments issues, staff absenteeism and stealing of drugs in roder to ensure Ugandans get good health services.

The President says the government will continue construction of classes, developed the curriculum and capacity improvement of schools. He says the government plans to extend universal secondary education to Advanced level, provide Grant aid for primary community schools, additional teacher housing and classrooms, libraries and hostels in highland and hard to reach areas to be constructed.

In a highly appreciated move by the MPs and dignitaries present, Museveni said the government is also planning to provide management training for all PTA (Parent Teacher Associations) and Board members of all schools in the country.

Museveni says the government in September 2011 started the extended social programme to tackle chronic poverty, starting with help to people with disabilities with 3bn provided for this.

He says the government has also launched the national employment policy focusing on job creation and increase productivity of workers. He says in the past year 334 youth received vocational training, youths 164 seed capital as part of efforts to tackle unemployment and underemployment in Uganda.

Museveni says the government will continue to work on all roads and bridges as outlines in the roads plan. He appealed to people not to dump garbage in drainage channels in order to avoid water clogging and keep proper sanitation.
