Museveni to give away more land for sugarcane growing

On top of Mabira give away to Metha Sugar cooperation of Uganda, President Yoweri Museveni is also proposing to give Isimba government prison land to Kinyara to grow more sugar cane and increase sugar production in the country.

This in contained in an eight page statement he supplied to MPs during Monday’s caucus meeting at Entebbe State House.

Museveni summoned MPs of his NRM ruling party to Entebbe state House to discuss the current economic crisis and the controversial giveaway of Mabira forest.

But according to MPs who attended the caucus, all MPs who contributed to the debate differed with the President on the proposed give away of Mabira forest.

Kampala Central MP Mohammed Nsereko, Mugema Peter Panadol of Iganga municipality and John Mulimba of Samia Bugwe South say no one supported Museveni;s idea of giving away mabira and they will not allow him to giveaway one of the only natural forests remaining.

The Vice chairman of the NRM caucus David Bahati says it was a healthy discussion with the President and the party will have to take time to digest the views of MPs before taking a conclusive action.
