Nandala Mafabi and Odonga Otto write to Chief Justice Benjamin Odoki over Speaker

The mp elect for Budadiri west Nandala Mafabi together with the mp elect for Aru county Odonga otto have written to chief justice Benjamin odoki over the coming election for the speaker and deputy speaker position in parliament.

The two are candidates for the two positions but say that they need special attention since they are opposition MPs. They say that since the chief justice will be the presiding officer he should follow the rules.

They say that he should allow nominations of all interested candidates then consider the use of secret voting and allocate each candidate adequate time to campaign and seek consent of the members of parliament as provided for under rule 4 of Parliament.

Mafabi will be standing with Rabecca Kadaga of NRM while Odonga will be contesting with Jacob Oalanya of NRM.

Otto also said that he is forced to start in order to see that religious sentiments are avoided. He says that it is not in order to have a protestant speaker and the deputy speaker also as a protestant.

The 375 newly sworn in Members of parliament will on Thursday have their first sitting in which they elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
