Commercial banks across the country have started issuing new notes of the redesigned Ugandan currencies.
The new Ugandan currency is smaller, rich in features capturing Uganda’s natural endowments and cultural heritage.
The new currency notes look beautiful and millions of Ugandans are yarning to pocket them.
However, commercial banks have not reconfigured their Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) to enable them start dispensing new 50,000, 20,000, 10,000, 5,000, 2,000 and 1,000 newly introduced notes.
The Governor of Bank of Uganda, Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile says the new notes will not increase the quantity of money in circulation (cause inflation) or devaluation.
Tumusiime says the re-designed notes have comprehensive security features which are hard for rogues to forge them.
