NRM chooses Jacqueline Amongin to replace Sarah Kataike in Africa Parliament

The ruling National Resistance Movement caucus has endorsed Ngora district MP Jacqueline Amongin to replace Sarah Kataike in the pan-African Parliament.

Amongin won the slot after a stiff contest with four other members including Anifa Kawooya (Sembabule), Helen Asamo (PWDS Eastern), Abraham Lokii (Jie) and Elizabeth Karungi (Kanungu).

NRM electoral commission chairperson Dr. Elijah Mushemeza announced Amongin as the NRM candidate awaiting approval of the house after she polled 71 votes, Kawooya 40, Asamo 15, Lokii 26 and Karungi got four votes.

Amongin thanked her competitors and voters, pledging to work with those she won in the race and all the MPs from the different regions of the country to so as to Uganda’s interests in the regional parliament.

She says that she is going to champion the cause of pan Africanism which is the only way to go for Africans.

Meanwhile, Mushemeza has also announced that the commission plans to clean up the party register so as to ensure free and fair elections within the party elections.

He says that he is going to forward the matter to the leadership of the party and after being given a go ahead he will embark on the process next year.
