NRM secretary general Justine Kasule Lumumba has warned that ministers and members of parliament who stood against NRM flag bearers are facing dismissal from the party. She said that the fate of these members is going to be decided by the party’s Central Executive Committee [CEC] but insisted that their punishment is nothing else but dismissal from the party.

Addressing the media at NRM head quarters at plot 10 Kyaddondo, Lumumba who was flanked by NRM secretariat party spokespersons Rogers Mulindwa and Ofwono Opondo said that even if CEC sits, the only legal provision for such members as per the NRM constitution is dismissal.

Lumumba was responding to a question from journalists who demanded to know the status of the independents including ministers such as Kahinda Otafiire who lost in elections but first participated in NRM primaries. Other ministers are Vincent Nyazi [state in charge of VP’s office], Sarah Opendi [state for primary health care], Asuman Kiyingi [state for works], Sarah Kataike [luweeo], Henry Banyenzaki [state for economic monitoring] and Jessica Alupo [education] while some of the MPs include Kabakumba Masiko, Harriet Ntabaazi, Sarah Mwebaza, Sarah Kataike, Yahaya Gudoi, Obua Hamson among others.

Lumumba had summoned the media to brief them on the planned NRM retreat for newly elected members of parliament which begins on Saturday and ends on March 20th in Kyankwanzi. The theme of the retreat is ‘Consolidating the NR revolution: effective manifesto implementation for better service delivery’. She says its main objective is to serve as a forum to orient and focus the MP-elects of NRM on their main parliamentary tasks at hand.

The members will also, according to Lumumba, be taught fully the NRM ideology, build political and organizational unity in addition to enabling members understand personal finance management, security threats, character in leadership and their role in development.
