It seems it is only the GOD of heaven who can curb corruption in Uganda. The people in government offices, mandated to fight corruption are the most corrupt in Uganda.
If we don’t read news that the Prime minister has stolen billion of shillings, the next day we hear someone in NSSF has stolen billions. Now the court in Kampala on Friday charged the former NSSF board chairman, Onegi Obel with abuse of office over theft of 8 billion shillings and remanded him to prison.
Onegi- Obel was charged before Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Sarah Langa Siu. But he denied the charges. Sydney Asubo, the director of legal affairs from Inspectorate of Government committed Onegi- Obel to face trial in High Court Anti-Corruption division.
Langa also denied Onegi bail. Onegi-Obel’s lawyer is Francis Gimara. The charges against Onegi-Obel were instituted in 2010.
