opposition blamed for missing independence jubilee celebrations

Uganda marked 50 years of independence in a colorful ceremony that attracted hundreds of dignitaries and heads of state from around the world.

The vice president Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi has expressed disappointment at the failure by major opposition political parties to attend the golden Jubilee independence celebrations.

Despite having several local and international dignitaries in attendance, major political parties like the FDC, DP and UPC shunned the event.

Earlier the groups accused government of not involving them in the preparations, further arguing that there was no need for celebrations since the people are still suffering.

However speaking to Journalists  after the celebrations, the vice president Sekandi said that their gesture was most unfortunate noting that the celebration was for the entire country and not just the ruling party.
