Over 100 sex workers in Kampala give up prostitution

About 100 prostitutes in Kampala have thrown in a towel and surrendered to the local NGO known as Plan International.

Plan International brought these sluts to the Parliamentary Children Affairs Committee on June 15 to address their issues.

On interrogation the ladies said they came to streets because their parents could not avail them with necessities. Others said they were nurtured by single parents who also died when they were still young.

In their ordeal the girls said that to give up on prostitution, the policemen have been mistreating them after arresting them.

One girl said that after arresting them for idle and disorderliness some policemen ask them for sex to set them free; that after the whole night of sex a policeman leaves without giving anything and after a few days the same officers come in pretext of looking for idle and disorderly people.

The ladies add that most policemen move at night arresting them for no reason but to satisfy their sexual desires.

The committee gave the girls some goodies like clothes and shoes in appreciation for deserting prostitution.

However, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Iddi Ibin Senkumbi says the prostitutes have never reported any case of forced sex by policemen.
