Overloading increasingly causing accidents

The Bundibugyo district officer in charge of Traffic Alinaitwe Bowaz has cited reckless driving and over loading as the major causes of accidents in the district.

Alinaitwe says that according to traffic statistics since the beginning of this year, his office registered a total number of 16 road accidents whereby, 5 were fatal, 10 serious and only one was minor.

Alinaitwe says that the above accidents claimed 5 lives where by 4 of the five were pedestrians and only 1 was a passenger.

He explains that a total number of 21 people were seriously injured and only 7 were slightly injured.

Statistics reveal that a total of 10 motor vehicles and 10 motorcycles were involved in the accidents.

OC Alinaitwe says that his office has now turned weapons onto taxi drivers who carry excess passengers and motor cyclists that carry more than one passenger and that his office will not allow any motorcycle to operate without a registration number.
