Parliament pins Ministry of health officials over GAVI funds

The Public Accounts Committee of parliament has dismissed officials from Ministry of Health after presenting contradictory statements over the recovery of Gavi funds.

The officials led by the Permanent Secretary Dr Asuman Lukwago had appeared before the Committee to respond to the Auditor General’s report of 2009/10.

They presented two documents; one referring to former Health Minister Jim Muhwezi as having refunded over 470 million shs of the Gavi funds while another indicated that he had not.

The committee chaired by Terego County MP Kassiano Wadri was left in confusion prompting them to kick the officials out.

The Permanent Secretary Dr Asuman Lukwago expressed regret over the anomalies. he said they will conduct investigations to furnish the committee with the right information.

Recently Anti-Corruption Court acquitted two of the three former health ministers accused of mismanaging 1.6 billion shillings meant for the GAVI.
