Parliament queries government allocation to resettle street children

MPs on the committee of gender and social development are concerned that government continues to allocate money for resettling street children.

The ministry of gender during this financial year requested for over 1.5 billion shillings to resettle the street kids and 500 million shillings for rehabilitating the children in rehabilitation and remand centers.

But the member’s say that they don’t see why two ministries of gender and the one for Karamoja affairs are receiving money from government for resettling street kids.

One of the members on this committee Sarah Mwebaza says since 2008 the ministry of gender has been receiving money for rehabilitating, rehabilitation and remand centers yet they don’t function and they are in a sorry state.

She says the number of street children is also just increasing thus not showing justification for government expenditure on the same.
