Police threaten to de-register buses

Police have threatened to de-register the buses that will not comply with the festive season transport guidelines requiring them not to over speed, over load or do return trips.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police commander Felix Kawesi says they have already issued guidelines indicating that no bus is allowed to make a return journey of over 300km

The caution follows an early morning motor accident involving a lorry and a taxi at Namanve on Monday morning, in which 5 people have lost their lives with many others injured.

Kawesi says there are bus operators intending to strike over the guidelines. He is warning the bus drivers and owners to follow the police guidelines or risk facing the long arm of the law, including deregistering such buses.

Kawesi has advised the public to be more vigilant during the festive days while travelling by cautioning drives against over speeding and opver loading.

He says the police will also continue with its duty of carrying out operations on the different highways to reduce to ensure lawn, order and security are observed
