The research environment at the University of Liverpool is underpinned by a vibrant graduate school that attracts postgraduate researchers from around the world.

There are many research studentships available throughout the University supported by Research Councils, charity and industrial sponsors and a variety of other sources, including the prestigious Duncan Norman Research Scholarship: fees and maintenance packages of up to £20,000 are available.

The research studentships available across a number of subjects, in Arts, Engineering, Science, Social and Environmental Studies, Medical Science and Veterinary Science.

  • PhD degrees
  • MPhil degrees (1-2 years)
  • Part-time MD degree (Faculty of Medicine only)
  • MRes

Apply for a studentship

If you are interested in research degrees at Liverpool you need to:

1. Check if we undertake research in the area of your interest and, if possible, identify potential supervisors, based on their stated research interests.

2. Complete the application form. Please follow all instructions carefully. As part of your application you will need to send a copy of your full c.v. by post.

Your application will then be processed and you will be contacted.
