Select committee on public land grabbing probe Nabagereka school demolition

Demolished

SchoolMembers of Parliament sitting on the select committee that is probing school land grabbing in Kampala chaired by Buvuma Islands MP Robert Migadde Ndugwa were shocked to hear that Boost Investment demolished Nabagereka Primary school without any court Order. On the basis of this, furious Members of Parliament on the committee ordered police CID to temporarily detain the director of Boost Investment, John Bosco Muwonge, until the court order and related documents are brought to parliament.

The school which was demolished on Friday May 2, 2014 had over 1,000 pupils; court bailiffs claimed that the land on which the school sat was leased off to city businessman John Bosco Muwonge in 2010.

The select committee on public land grabbing led by Buvuma County MP Robert Migadde took the decision after Muwonge failed to produce documents from which he based on to demolish the school. Before Muwonge was detained he told the committee that he followed legal procedures including securing a court order when he was going to demolish the school but he failed to table the documents related to the said court order.

Iganga District woman MP Kabaale Olivia Kwagala says the director of Boost Investment used false-pretence to demolish Nabagereka Primary school.

Committee Chairperson Migadde Ndugwa says the committee is much interested in the court order and adds that all the parties who had so far appeared before the committee do not have this document; it’s been fortunate that witnesses today admitted that they have it.
