Solar power in island schools will improve quality of education

The Member of Parliament for Buvuma county Migade Ndugwa says that government should invest in provision of solar power to islands to minimize the number of failing students at all levels of education. He noted that islands like Buvuma have the highest number of the students failing examinations. Migade says that islands education needs to a boost by provision of solar power to enable students spend time reading in the night as others in districts with power are doing to compete equally. He attributed the performance of students in islands to lack of enough schools and power.

Buvuma district which is entirely an island got 3 first grade in the 2015 UCE, Kalangala district which is also an island got six first grade and Namayingo got 12 first grade. Buvuma which is part of the 52 Lake Victoria islands has  one government secondary school and there are some sub counties in this island with no primary school  yet it accommodates about  583,600 as per the 2010 population census.
