South Sudan rebels kill 34 government soldiers

The South Sudanese rebel group has killed over 34 South Sudan government soldiers and 13 UPDF soldiers on Bor – Juba road. The UPDF and South Sudan government soldiers also managed to kill three Dr. Riek Machar’s rebel group members.

Bor is situated 190 km (120 miles) to the north of Juba by road.

The South Sudan government army spokesman, spokesman Philip Aguer confirmed the continued fighting between his government soldiers and the the rebel liberation army.

Over 3,000 people have been killed by government soldiers, UPDF and rebels since fighting brokeout in South Sudan in December 2013. The fighting was triggered by a power struggle between President Salva Kiir and his former deputy minister, Dr. Riek Machar, whom many people in South Sudan refer to call ‘darling’ for his being humble, down to earth, and democratic.

The government of South Sudan and the rebels signed a ceasefire on Jan. 23, 2014 but sporadic clashes have continued due to reported attacks on rebel camps by the UPDF and South Sudan government soldiers.
