Dr Mary Goretti Nakabugo being interviewed by the media at the 5th Uwezo annual learning assessment report launch.

The fifth learning report released by Uwezo today has continued to highlight that the country is still facing huge challenges in the full implementation of early childhood development with only 54% of the country’s kids having attained nursery education. The report continues to reveal the 9-12% of the children who are in primary two cannot clearly read nor write an English story and have often repeated class and have repeated class due to lack of better skills to read and write with these factors brought about by not attending early childhood learning.

However, with only 94% of Uganda’s  children in primary school, 61% of the Karamajong kids have never stepped in school throughout their life coupled with the increasing drop out of children still at primary level which factors according to the report wash away all the strategies by government to have universal education.

The manager Uwezo Uganda, Mary Goretti Nakabuga uses this report to emphasize the great need early childhood development offers to the kids as they go about their education career noting that nursery section offers a firm foundation for our children’s education background.

Educationists now challenge government to own early childhood development and support the facilities that have been set by private education entities as the country now boosts of 7486 early childhood development facilities.
