Many people in the world, especially in Africa, Latin America and in some parts of Asia still take human immune deficiency virus (HIV) to be the same as the Acquired Immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).

HIV or human immune deficiency virus and AIDS or the Acquired Immune deficiency syndrome is totally different. HIV is a virus but AIDS is a collection of diseases and infections caused by HIV.

You can have HIV but not have AIDS. If your CD4 count and immunity are high, HIV infection can develop into AIDS. Many people in the world have AIDS and HIV. In Uganda more than 250.000 children are born with HIV/AIDS.
