University of Sydney Undergraduate Scholarships: University of Sydney Undergraduate Scholarships for School Leavers applying for admission through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) are awarded annually in January on a combination of school examination results, UAI and other achievements, (leadership, creativity, self-motivation, communication skills etc).

Suitability will be considered based on the application submitted.

When the UAI scores are released, each applicants UAI will be checked to see it meets the minimum level, the student may then be offered a scholarship.

Please note that students who wish to study at Sydney College of the Arts or the Sydney Conservatorium of Music must achieve a UAI of at least 90 and be amongst the top 5% of applicants, assessed by portfolio or performance.

International and New Zealand students applying for admission through the UAC are also eligible to apply.

There are two levels of University of Sydney Undergraduate Scholarships (Entry & Merit scholarships). Your application will automatically be considered for both.

  • University of Sydney Merit Scholarship – $6000 for a maximum of 5 years (must maintain an excellent academic record throughout the tenure of the scholarship).
  • University of Sydney Entry Scholarship – $6000 for one year only

University of Sydney Scholarships are available for all undergraduate degrees and combined degrees.

However, you can nominate only one faculty in your application which will be forwarded to this faculty for consideration.

The scholarship can be used for any degree in that Faculty.

How to Apply: Application forms are available from the Scholarships Office from mid July in each scholarship round.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship: The award of a Gates Cambridge Scholarship provides excellent opportunities for personal intellectual development, living and working alongside other similarly outstanding students from the UK and from many other countries.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships are full-cost awards for graduate study and research in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. A small number are also available for study towards a second undergraduate degree.

Host Institution(s): University of Cambridge in United Kingdom

Field of study: Any field of study offered at the University.

Number of Awards:

The Trust seeks to elect approximately 100 new Gates Scholars annually (although the exact number of awards may change from year to year).

Target group:

The scholarships are highly competitive and are awarded to citizens of any country outside the United Kingdom.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

A Gates Cambridge scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge, namely:

  • the university composition fee and College fees at the appropriate rate
  • a maintenance allowance for a single student (£12, 250 for 12 months at the current rate; pro rata for courses shorter then 12 months)
  • the cost of the most economical airfare from the scholar’s normal country of residence to the UK at the beginning of their course and the cost of the most economical airfare from the UK to the scholar’s normal country of residence at the end of the course
  • A discretionary contribution towards the costs of supporting dependants at Cambridge (upon application)

Once in residence, Gates Scholars may apply for financial help with the costs of attending conferences, undertaking fieldwork and other activities.

Scholarship Application Eligibility Criteria:

  • may be citizens of any country outside the United Kingdom.
  • may apply to study any subject available at the University of Cambridge.
  • must apply to pursue one of the following full-time residential courses of study:
  • Research leading to the PhD degree
  • One-year post-graduate courses (e.g. MPhil, LLM, Diploma, CASM or Part III Maths, MBA etc.)
  • 2 year MSc degree
  • Second Bachelor degree as an Affiliated Student
  • MBBChir Clinical Studies
  • must be admitted to Cambridge through the University’s normal academic procedures. The Trust cannot admit students.
  • must have a first class or high second class honours degree, or its equivalent, from a recognised university. For universities which work according to the North American pattern, candidates will be expected to have excellent transcripts with high GPA scores showing evidence of sustained achievement in study, together with the type of academic references which speak of the candidate’s leadership potential, social commitment, intellectual ability and why further study at Cambridge is particularly appropriate.

The Gates Cambridge Trust does not require candidates to take a GRE test, although some Departments in Cambridge may do so; candidates should check the relevant section of the Graduate Studies Prospectus.

  • must be well prepared for the Cambridge course for which they are applying and must meet the academic criteria for admission specified by the University. Some courses may have particular requirements for admission, and details of these can be found in the relevant sections of the Graduate Studies Prospectus for graduate applicants, or the Undergraduate Prospectus for affiliated applicants.
  • who are not native speakers of English are required by the University to provide proof of their proficiency in the English language to meet the minimum standard required for admission to Cambridge.   • from countries of the European Union who intend to pursue graduate study or research must, where eligible, apply for public fees awards offered by the Research Councils by the relevant deadlines.

East African Community LLM & PhD Scholarships: Applications for admission and scholarships are invited from candidates in member states of the East African Community, who wish to receive a scholarship and to take part in the postgraduate study programme in law (LLM or PhD) offered by the Tanzanian-German Centre for Postgraduate Studies in Law at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law (Formerly Faculty of Law) in cooperation with the University of Bayreuth (TGCL).

The purpose of the programme is to train future leaders in East Africa. University of Bayreuth (TGCL) grants ten LLM scholarships and five PhD scholarships each year.

Scholarships are granted for one year in the case of LLM students and three years in the case of PhD students.

Scholarship Requirements and Qualifications:

The requirements for admission to the LLM and PhD programmes are those applicable at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law (Formerly Faculty of Law).

For the LLM programme:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or its equivalent from a recognized institution of higher legal education.

For the PhD programme:

  • An excellent LLM degree from a recognized institution.

Duke Law School Scholarships: Duke Law School has established two half-tuition merit scholarships for extremely well-qualified students to attend the LLM program.

Outstanding applicants should submit with their LLM application a letter including the following information:

(1) a statement describing major professional, academic, and other qualifications,

(2) reasons for applying for the scholarship, such as what you can contribute to the Duke Law community, and

(3) names of persons other than those on the LLM application who can be contacted for additional references.

Birmingham Law School LLM Scholarships: The Birmingham Law School will be offering a number of scholarships to applicants for its taught LLM programmes.

These are likely to be available as follows:

  • up to £10,000 for international students from the African continent, China, India, Malaysia, and Thailand.
  • up to £2,500 for international students from other countries

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.

Applicants must already have applied for admission to the LLM degree.

Applicants are required to send a letter of motivation for the scholarship to Mrs Sharon Jones (Law-LLM [at] bham.ac.uk).

Successful applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications by the end of June.

East African Community LLM & PhD Scholarships: Applications for admission and scholarships are invited from candidates in member states of the East African Community, who wish to receive a scholarship and to take part in the postgraduate study programme in law (LLM or PhD) offered by the Tanzanian-German Centre for Postgraduate Studies in Law at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law (Formerly Faculty of Law) in cooperation with the University of Bayreuth (TGCL).

The purpose of the programme is to train future leaders in East Africa. University of Bayreuth (TGCL) grants ten LLM scholarships and five PhD scholarships each year.

Scholarships are granted for one year in the case of LLM students and three years in the case of PhD students.

Scholarship Requirements and Qualifications:

The requirements for admission to the LLM and PhD programmes are those applicable at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law (Formerly Faculty of Law).

For the LLM programme:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or its equivalent from a recognized institution of higher legal education.

For the PhD programme:

  • An excellent LLM degree from a recognized institution.

Scholarships start from 1st October each year.
