African Heads of State at the 27th AU Summit in Rwanda.

The African Union (AU) has launched a new passport that can be used by all African countries.

The outgoing chairperson of the African Union Commission H.E Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma presented the first two passports to the Chairman AU, Idriss and President Paul Kagame of Rwanda.

The launch fulfills an aspiration of Agenda 2063 that envisions an “integrated” and “united” Africa, according to the AU press release announcing plans for the e-passport.

Dr. Nkosazana launched the African Passport at the 27th AU Summit that was held in Kigali, Rwanda

Dr. Nkosazana said Heads of State, Ministers of foreign affairs, Ambassadors will be the first beneficiaries of the African passports.

Issuance of the African Passports, is expected to pave the way for the Member States to adopt and ratify the necessary Protocols and Legislation with the view to begin issuing the much expected African passport.
