African Women Public Service Fellowship: Wagner announces a call for applications for the African Women Public Service Fellowship, a fellowship program made possible by a donation from the Oprah Winfrey Foundation, which expands the opportunity for African women to prepare for public service in their home countries.

Host Institution(s): NYUWagner,USA.

Field of study:

As fellows at NYU Wagner, African women study in one of two graduate programs: the two-year Master of Public Administration or the one-year Executive MPA: Concentration on International Public Service Organizations.

Target group: African Women

Scholarship value/inclusions:

The awards for either program will support tuition, housing, travel to and from theUnited Statesand a small stipend to cover books and miscellaneous expenses.

Fellowship Application Eligibility Criteria:

  • be citizens and resident in an African country at the time of application.
  • NYU Wagner’s admissions committee pays particular attention to applications from women who possess strong academic records;
  • who have a demonstrated commitment to public service;
  • for whom a Wagner education would significantly enhance their ability to have a deep and lasting impact on public service issues in their home country and region.
  • Applicants commit to return to their respective home countries at the conclusion of the program with the goal of assuming a leadership position on the continent where they can meaningfully contribute to the challenges currently confrontingAfrica.

Application instructions:

  • There are not special forms or applications to fill out to be considered for the African Women Public Service Fellowship.
  • You will automatically be considered for all scholarships, including the African Women Public Service Fellowship.

African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) Fellowships): The Gender and Diversity program invites applications for fellowships under the AWARD Program.

The fellowship will support African agricultural women scientists from Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia with PhD degrees, including those in post-doctoral positions and women scientists with MA/MSc/MPhil/BA/BSc degrees.

Disciplines:

Crop sciences (including horticulture), soil sciences, animal and livestock sciences,plant and animal animal virology, agroforestry, agricultural economics, aquatic resources and fisheries, food sciences and nutrition, natural resource management and ecology, biodiversity conservation, entomology, agricultural extension education, molecular biology (applied to plant/animal breeding) and water and irrigation management.

Application Forms:

The application forms have been divided into three categories:

  • Post-PhD/Post-doctoral to be completed and submitted by women scientists with a minimum qualification of PhD degree.
  • Post-MA/MSc/MPhil to be completed and submitted by women scientists with a minimum qualification of MA/MSc/MPhil degree.
  • Post-BA/BSc to be completed and submitted by women scientists with a minimum qualification of BA/BSc degree.

Ugandan team of female footballers, the crested Cranes will face their counterparts of the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday this week, according to the team manager, Mariam Kaliga.

Kaliga, who is also the woman councilor representing Ndejje, Masajja and Busabala parish to Wakiso district, says that Crested Cranes is meeting DR Congo in the first leg of African women championship. Mariam Kaliga says that the team captain, Christine Wanyana, goal keeper, Fatumah Matovu, Assistant captain Naome Nagadya, and all the team members are in good condition.

 Kaliga also says that the winner of the Saturday match will faceEquatorial Guineain May this year. The members of the Crested Cranes are camped at Kavumba recreation centre onEntebberoad while their counterparts of the Democratic Republic of Congo are already inUgandaand under going training series in Wankulukuku. The match has been sponsored by the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA). The guest of honour at the match is Helen Kagina of Uganda Revenue Authority.
