Intelligence reports have revealed that sections of Al Shabab fighters in Somalia have penetrated Uganda’s international airport whereby the members of the said terrorist group use the airport to run their activities at ease. We have also been told that the rebels use Nairobo as their base after Entebbe.

The intelligence officers were also shocked to run that the Al Shabaab fighters who the Uganda national army, the UPDF is fighting in Uganda have many representatives and supporters in Uganda. President Museveni or the government sent the UPDF soldiers to Somalia without the consent of Uganda Parliament or the consent of Ugandans. When one listens on radio talk shows in Kampala, notices that indeed many Ugandans did not support President Museveni to send soldiers to Somalia.

An intelligence officer at Entebbe Airport told our informer that the Al Shabaab commanders bribe some security officers at Entebbe Airport to travel to the rest of the world through Entebbe Airport. Even the UPDF leadership confirms that some of the Al Shabaab commanders travel through Entebbe International Airport without being noticed by the airport security.

This new intelligence revelation shows how Uganda is still vulnerable to Al Shabaab actions. In July 2011 the suspected Al Shabaab terrorists bombed Uganda in which attack over 76 Ugandans died and scores injured.

The Pan African Parliament has urged the African Union to allow Uganda’s forces in the African Union Peace Keeping Mission in Somalia to seize just being a defensive force in Somalia by reviewing the protocol on the peace keeping mission in Somalia.

Uganda peace keeping troops in Somalia

This comes after Uganda was hit with bomb blasts to which the Somali based Al Shabab claimed responsibility. The Al Shabab accuses Uganda and Burundi of keeping their forces in Somalia and having prompted those bomb blasts in Kampala so as to revenge to Uganda for taking soldiers to Somalia.

One of the Members of the Pan African Parliament Johnson Toskin has told a press conference at Parliament that the peace keeping mission has achieved little or nothing as the situation in Somalia has instead worsened just because the forces are merely defensive.

Toskin says therefore Pan Africa Parliament should petition the Africa Union to have the protocol amended such that the forces in Somalia can be allowed to be offensive.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the Pan African, Mary Mugyenyi has urged other African countries to come and support the Uganda forces in Somalia as they pledged to such that the Somali peace keeping mission becomes stronger. Although many countries including Ghana and Nigeria pledged to contribute troops to the aU peace Keeping mission in Somalia, only Uganda and Burundi have sent troops to the war torn Eastern Africa nation.

The government of Uganda has said Al-Qaeda, Al-shabab and remnants of the Allied Democratic Forces rebels are responsible for Sunday’s bomb attacks in Kampala Uganda.

Minister Matia Kasaija

The Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Matia Kasaija says security forces have for long had information that the two islamist military groups Al-Qaeda and Al-Shabab have been working with ADF rebel remnants in the Democratic Republic of Congo to resume terrorizing Ugandans.

The Muslim leaning ADF headed by Jamil Mukulu was activie in the Rwenzori region of western Uganda in the late 1990s and is remembered for burning students at Kicwamba technical institute among other gruesome murders. The rebels were supposedly defeated in early 2000 but the government has been saying they are regrouping to launch attacks on Uganda.

Kasaija says the government of Uganda had beefed up security in most areas where many people congregate but the security were taken unaware at Lugogo rugby stadium where more than 2000 people had gathered for the e2010 FIFA World cup final game between Spain and Netherlands.

The police has so far confirmed 74 people dead, with many nursing serious injuries in several hospitals in Kampala, especially at Mulago National referral hospital.

He says the event organizers did not alert security forces that they were to hold such a big event, the reason, the terrorists took advantage and planted the bombs.

Kasaija says Uganda security forces have formed a joint committee to up the security and to coordinate with regional security agencies of neighbouries to counter the terrorist attacks.

Kampala city was again gripped by a bomb scare Monday evening following reports of a bomb at Makindye house, a popular r hangout.

The Police Anti Terrorism unit (PATU) rushed to the scene after being called in by the hotel staff and cordoned off the house and neighbouring areas.

The PATU managed to detonate the bomb without any causalities, but the incident went further to show how vulnerable Ugandans are to terrorist attacks.  The country is still coming to terms with Sunday’s three bomb blasts that killed at least 74 people, according to police.

Katwe Police Station criminal investigation boss, Vincent Okurut said workers at Makindye House saw a phone ringing in knapsack that had been left by a person who had come in like any ordinary customer.

On scrutinizing the bag, a staff saw that the phone was wired to other devices within the bag, and instantly made an alarm which alerted other people to flee and calls for police to come.

The explosive, which security operatives described as home-made, was detonated at 4:00pm. There were no injuries, the Police said.

By press time, the scene remained cordoned off, with operatives from the Joint Anti-Terrorism Unit and PATU scouring the place for clues.

Okurut appealed to the public to be vigilant of people near them, their behavior and what they are carrying, and report any suspicious persons or conduct to the police.

The Uganda government suspects Somali islamist group Al-shabab, Al-Qaeda and the Allied Democratic Forces rebels are behind the string of  bomb attacks.
