Stephen Kiprotich, who is the 2012 London Olympics Marathon gold medalist, has been promoted from the rank of Prison Warder to Assistant Superintendent of Prisons in recognition of his recent performance at the Olympics games.

Kiprotich has gone into the books of history as the first Ugandan serving Prisons Officer to get promoted to the rank of assistant superintendent of prisons jumping seven positions at once, according to the Commissioner General of Prisons Dr. Johnson Byabashaija.

Kipritich’s promotion was in line with the Prison Service’s policy of recognizing and promoting its sportspersons who might have performed better in a given sport of an international nature.

The event was presided over by the internal Affairs minister, Hillary Onek, who together with Byabasaija decorated Kiprotich. Kiprotich, 23, won a gold medal in the marathon at the 2012 London Olympics in the month of August 2012.
