Music artist Rema of Gagamel

After the failure of the Pearl of Africa Music Awards, entertainment website Hipipo rose to the huge challenge and organised the music annual awards to identify and award the best music and artists of the year 2012.

The first Hipipo Music awards took place over the weekend at a glamorous event held at Theater labonita. The biggest winners of the night were the Gagamel crew, with its leader Bebe Cool winning the overall artist of the year award and another for raggae song of the year, while their fast rising star Rema walked away with five award, including female artist of the year.

Another notable winner that few will have qualms about was Mathias Walukaga’s phenomenal song Bakowu which won two awards, song of the year, and Kadongokamu song of the year.

The award is offered to scientists who wish to attend scientific thematic conferences and workshops in Africa.

The award will cover the the cost of the air ticket, cost of accommodation and a daily subsistence amounts for the duration of the conference.

Women scientists working in the Diaspora are particularly encouraged to apply.

Premio Daniel Carasso Prize: The Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation is currently inviting entries for Premio Daniel Carasso Prize, an international award offered to a researcher with outstanding basic or applied research work on the topic “sustainable food and diets for long term human health”.

This prize was started in memory of Daniel Carasso who dedicated his life for openness and concern for the well-being of all. The prize is awarded every two years to a project displaying clearly stated objectives, a rigorous approach, robust methodologies and study design, sound analysis, and relevant conclusions.

Objective

The Premio Deniel Carasso Prize is an international award that recognizes and supports a researcher, who has achieved outstanding basic or applied research work on the topic “sustainable food and diets for long term human health”.

Eligible scientific domains include basic and applied research in: Nutrition, Food Studies, Food Sciences and Technology, Agriculture, Agronomy, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Agro-ecology, Ecology, Biodiversity, Environmental Sciences, Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, Implementation Research, Nutrition/Food/Agricultural policies (Toxicology is not included).

Prize Amount

The winner of the Premio Daniel Carasso wins €100,000. The Prize may, exceptionally, be awarded to two or more entrants (in which case the Jury will determine what amount will be awarded to each winner).

Selection Criteria

• Applicants will be judged on their capacity to innovate and lead, the relevance and multi-disciplinary nature of their scientific approach, and for the potential practical application of their research work.
• Entrants must work for a not-for-profit institution and be actively involved in research.
• Entrants must have published all the eligible research work that they submit and be its authors/co-authors.
• They must also hold rights over their published work permitting them to authorize the Foundation Daniel & Nina Carasso to proceed as provided in Section 8.

Online entries should comprise

• The entry form that clearly states the name and contact details of the entrant and at least two sponsors.
• The following uploaded documents:

1. An academic curriculum vitae (Word or PDF file, max. 4 pages).2. A succinct presentation of research work eligible for the Prize (max. 3 pages), and an optional 1-page summary of on-going and future projects, in the same file (Word or PDF file). 3. A list and brief summary (Word or PDF file) of between 5 and 10 research-related publications in any media: print (books, scientific and general interest journals and magazines), the Internet, audio, video, multimedia, etc.4. A copy of each publication in PDF format (max. 3MB per file). If publications cannot be uploaded for technical reasons, three hard copies of each publication should be sent by post together with the duly completed and signed entry form.

CANADA-HOPE Scholarship Program: The primary goal of the CANADA-HOPE Scholarship Program is to further develop international collaborative efforts between researchers.

The short term goal is to enable promising individuals to be mentored by prominent Canadian researchers.

The long term objective of the Program is to enable promising scientists and clinicians from Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC), as identified by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the United Nations (UN), to be exposed to some of the best science, laboratories and training environments in Canada.

Scholarship Application Eligibility Criteria:

In order to be eligible for this award, the scholar must have a mentor in a related field at an eligible Canadian institution and the sponsorship of an eligible institution in sub-continental South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan) or in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The scholarships are intended for men and women of high intellectual promise who may be expected to make a significant contribution to their own countries following their return from study in Canada.

Anyone who has obtained Canadian citizenship or who has applied for permanent residency in Canada shall not be eligible for the award.

Awards Creative Women and Women’s Groups: WWSF (Women’s World Summit Foundation) invites nominations to award prizes to women and women’s groups around world.

The nominees for the prizes should be those women who have contributed towards the improvement of the quality of life of rural communities by applying exceptional creativity, commitment and courage.

“The Prize aims to draw international attention to laureates’ contributions to sustainable development, household food security and peace, thus generating recognition and support for their projects. While rural women are vital in providing examples of sound practice in their communities, they still do not have full access to tools needed for development, such as education, credit, land rights and participation in decision making. By highlighting and awarding creative development models, innovations and experiences enhancing the quality of rural life, WWSF participates in addressing the eradication of rural poverty, gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment.”

Nearly 20 prizes are distributed to winners and each of the prizes carries a cash award of $1000. In addition to this, one women’s organization from Africa receives a cash donation of $3000.

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission UK invites applications for Commonwealth scholarships. International scholarships, college scholarships, study abroad and get financial aid.

Scholarship 2012/2013 Eligibility:

To apply for the awards, candidates should:

1. Be Commonwealth citizens, refugees, or British protected persons.

2. Be permanently resident in a Commonwealth country other than the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.

3. Be available to commence their academic studies in the UnitedKingdom by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2012.

4. Hold, by October 2012, a first degree of upper second class Honours standard (or above); or a second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification, which will normally be a Master’s degree.

5. For clinical training in the fields of medicine and dentistry, have qualified as a doctor or dentist between 1 October 2002 and 30 September 2007.

Scholarship 2012/2013 Award

Each Scholarship provides:

• Student concessionary or other approved airfare to the UnitedKingdom and return on expiry of the Scholarship (the cost of journeys made before final award confirmation will not normally be reimbursed, nor can fares be paid for a Scholar’s dependants)
• Candidates will be given a formal Notification of Award – the offer of a Scholarship – as soon as terms of admission to the university/institution have been agreed
• Formal confirmation of the award will be issued when all conditions of the Notification of Award have been metScholars will be expected to take up the award from the date stated by the Commission in its Notification of Award
• A Commonwealth Scholarship covers fees, fares and personal maintenance.
• Similar awards may not be held concurrentlyScholars will be expected to reside in the United Kingdom through -out their award, and to seek prior approval for any proposed visits abroad
• Scholars may not undertake paid employment during their awardwithout prior consent
• The Commission will require a medical report before an award can be confirmed
• Scholars will be required to sign an undertaking to return to their home country as soon as their award comes to an end
• The Commission will only consider requests to extend leave toremain in the UK post-award for those wishing to move from Master’s to PhD study. Strict conditions will apply
• The Commission will therefore be unable to provide any letter of support which might be required by an award holder to stay on to work in the UK

Gates Cambridge Scholarship: The award of a Gates Cambridge Scholarship provides excellent opportunities for personal intellectual development, living and working alongside other similarly outstanding students from the UK and from many other countries.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships are full-cost awards for graduate study and research in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. A small number are also available for study towards a second undergraduate degree.

Number of Awards:

The Trust seeks to elect approximately 100 new Gates Scholars annually (although the exact number of awards may change from year to year).

Target group:

Scholarship value/inclusions:

A Gates Cambridge scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge, namely:

• the university composition fee and College fees at the appropriate rate
• a maintenance allowance for a single student (£12, 250 for 12 months at the current rate; pro rata for courses shorter then 12 months)
• the cost of the most economical airfare from the scholar’s normal country of residence to the UK at the beginning of their course and the cost of the most economical airfare from the UK to the scholar’s normal country of residence at the end of the course

Georgina Sweet Fellowship: The trustees of the AFUW Inc Education Trust invite applications for the biennial Georgina Sweet Fellowship to support a woman postgraduate to undertake advanced post-first degree study or research in any field, at an Australian university.

Value:

• $6,000 Australian Dollars.
• The award may be applied toward the cost of the successful applicant’s studies, but does not include travel expenses.
• Payment will be made in two halves, subject to satisfactory progress by the candidate.
