This was disclosed by the acting commissioner in charge of employment services in the ministry of gender, labour and social development, Milton Turyasiima, while speaking at the prevention and protection of women, young girls from exploitative migrant labour meeting organized by platform for Labour Action Uganda at hotel Africana on Monday.

Turyasiima says that the labour force desk at Entebbe airport will detect any cases of trafficking in persons.

He also says that government is soon signing bilateral agreements with Arab countries including; Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates to reduce on irregular recruitment of migrant workers from the country.

Turyasiima also accused foreign labour firms of violating the rights of migrant workers while subjecting them to mistreatment by the employers where they are placed.

He says that migrant’s worker should go out with air return ticket so that in case the conditions are not good at work, they can return with no problems.

Turyasiima however says that despite the current exiting ban on exportation of labour, there is no way they can stop any person when he or she feels that the destination will change their lives.

Government put a ban on exporting domestic workers especially to the Middle East earlier this year following complaints of various human rights abuse by employers in the Middle East Countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates among others. Reports had indicated that victims are subjected to inhuman torture including rape and buttering by the victim’s employers.

Addressing the media Bernhardt said they delighted to re-commence services to Entebbe.

He says with the commencement of our services between Bahrain and Entebbe, they are opening the doors for commercial and tourism opportunities in East Africa, the MENA region and beyond.

Bernhardt adds that they are hopeful this new route will be a success for both passenger and cargo operations as well as facilitating business and leisure traffic between the two countries and beyond.
