Multichoice has bought off advertising rights on Bukedde TV and radio station. According to sources, now no pay television company is allowed to advertize on Bukedde TV without the consent of MultiChoice.

Bukedde secretly signed an exclusive contract with MultiChoice Uganda on Friday last week according to sources working on Bukedde TV, Bukedde radio and the New Vision group of companies in general.

However one of the managers at the New Vision who preferred to remain anonymous in this report told us that Bukedde signed a contract with Multichoice in December 2011 but not on Friday.

Bukedde currently enjoys access to modern technologies, broadcast infrastructure and state funding.

Following the publication of a photograph of a woman who the editorial team of the New Vision Group believed at the time to be the mother of the new born Buganda prince, Richard Semakookiro, the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has asked all people in Uganda and across the world to stop the talk on the new born prince.

Speaking through his Katikkiro (prime minister), Eng. John Baptist Walusimbi, the Kabaka said that the full details about the new born prince and its mother would be revealed at the right time.

The Kabaka says that since the Katikkiro announced the birth of the new prince, several media houses, radio panelists and people on social networks like facebook have written literature and uttered statements that belittle the traditions, norms and virtues ofBugandakingdom. The Kabaka says that although he is a king a remains an individual who has a right to privacy. He says that it is improper for news publications like the New Vision, Bukedde Newspaper, Bukedde TV and all their sister organisations to write lies and belittling stories about the Kingdom of Buganda and the royal family in Buganda.

On January 24, 2012 the Chief Executive Officer of the New Vision Group, Robert Kabushenga authorised the publication of a photograph of a woman, and stated that she was the mother of Prince Richard Ssemakookiro.

Kabushenga apologised to the audiences across the country and the world at large for the mistake and regreted any inconveniences caused to the woman in the picture.

He stated that this was an error of judgment for which he took full responsibility. The Kabaka through his Katikkiro has said that all the information the New Vision and her sister media houses have been publishing concerning the looks of the mother of prince Semakookiro are false.

We think that it is better for politicians to read all newspapers within and outside the country in order to get peoples views, challenges and aspirations.

But this is not the case with the FDC President, Col. Kiiza Besigye. He has told the members of FDC inKampalathat for him he doesn’t read the Daily Red Pepper, Onion, Entasi and Kamunye newspaper. Why? Besigye says this is because the above newspapers are reportedly used by the NRM government to write negative stories about FDC and Besigye.

Besigye also says that he hardly read the government owned newspapers of the New Vision and Bukedde because they too are used to fight opposition.

The FDC leader says he only reads the Weekly Observer and the Daily monitor because according to him these two newspapers write professionally and accurately.

In an amazing scenario, the MP for Mityana North, Godfrey Kiwanda who was among the MPs in the seventh parliament, who lifted president Museveni’s term of office from two to infinity, has now asked the same president he gave green light to leave state power.

Kiwanda says that the over 26 years Museveni has ruledUgandaare enough and that the president should leave power after his term of office in 2016 in order to avoid Ugandans to turn into violent.

Speaking on Bukedde TV yesterday, Kiwanda said Museveni should quit power and goes back to look after his cows and grand children. Museveni is a herdsman. The MP says that Museveni not so long ago was the only man inUganda‘who could light fire when it is raining’ but he is now sending the same country he liberated into a political limbo.

Museveni when he captured power in 1986 he is remembered to have told Ugandans that the problem with African leaders is the desire to over stay in power. Kiwanda says there are many people in NRM living quietly but wishing Museveni to leave power.

Kiwanda asked Museveni to copy a leaf from Nelson Mandela ofSouth Africawho quit power when he was still a darling of his people. In 1986 and the early 1990s Museveni would cough and most Ugandans fill concerned but the same Ugandans he rules now wish him hell.

Hearing of case lodged with Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC)  Court four years ago by journalists has failed to take off under unclear circumstances.

A case in which journalists protested brutal attacks by police and other security  agencies had been fixed for hearing on  December 9th 2011 at 9 00am local time at the Commission premises on Buganda Road. The complainants received summons for the slated date.

In 2007, journalists  including Sam Kayiwa working with Power FM, Geoffrey Wokulira Ssebaggala formerly working with Radio Sapientia and Ssemakula Richard formerly working with Bukedde newspaper among others went to the Commission tribunal demanding for investigation into the violations against journalists’ press freedoms and rights. They also urged the Commission to take punitive measures against culprits including compensation for the victims.

The journalists alleged in their complaint that while covering both treason and murder trials of the opposition leader for Forum for Democratic Changes (FDC) Dr. Kizza Besigye and  the 13 Peoples Redemption Army (PRA) suspects at high court in Kampala and Bushenyi, security forces besieged court and in an attempt to re-arrest the suspects who had been granted  bail, most journalists were beaten, their equipment and valuable items like money were  compulsorily confiscated and others were blocked from accessing  the court premises.

A complaint file UHRC 52/2007 was opened against the Attorney General for violations of freedoms and rights of the affected journalists.

Human Rights Network for Journalists-Uganda (HRNJ-Uganda) has discovered that the matter was not cause listed for the said session and the witnesses were erroneously summoned to appear before the tribunal on the stated date because the file was allegedly not allocated to a particular Commissioner at the Human Rights court.

Officials at the commission told HRNJ-Uganda that the summoned journalists will have to wait until the next Tribunal sittings which are slated for February 2012.

“This has come way too late when memories of the victims and the general public to whom the media reports to are fading away.  However, it is still not too late for the Commission to deliver justice to the victims.  Most of the perpetrators have since been transferred or have earned promotions within the security forces, but we pray and hope that this will not act in their favor or jeopardize the proceedings.
