The African Union (AU), through the African Parliamentary Alliance last week started an advocacy campaign for UN reforms that they say will spearhead ideas that will be in favor of Africa.

The campaign aims at soliciting 10 million signatures across the continent so as to petition the Pan African Parliament which will debate and pass a resolution calling the UN to effect the reforms.

According to the Executive Chairperson of the African Parliamentary Alliance who is also a former legislator in the Pan African Parliament, Hon. Onyango Kakooba, while appearing on Capital Radio on Tuesday November, 01 2016, in Kampala, they will also deposit the petitions with different international bodies to pressurize the UN security council to allow Africa have some representatives on this council.

Kakooba, noted that the AU took a common position on the UN reforms, to have 2 permanent and 5 none permanent seats for Africa on the UN Security Council, adding that it is not fair for only 5 permanent members including USA, Russia, Britain, France and China to take decisions on peace and security for the rest of the countries in the whole world.

Kakooba further says that without a representative from Africa, the UN Security Council cannot respond immediately in case of an emergency in African countries.

Excelling female journalists who performed well in the 2016 election coverage have been recognized in Uganda. Women journalists were given awards for their hard work and good performance in the media industry and participating in covering the 2016 elections despite the hardship they faced.
Twenty women journalists recognized by the Uganda Media Women’s Association (UMWA) at hotel Africana include Esther Wamala of CBS 89.2 FM Emmanduso, Remmy Bahati (NBS TV), Linda Kibombo (senior reporter NTV), Philis Wanjiru (news editor Capital radio), Catherine Aeno (news editor KFM), Juliat Namuwaya (Urban TV), Agnes Nandutu (NTV), Shira Nduhukire (NTV), Alice Lubwama (Capital FM), Regina Nasanga (Mama FM), Prossy Kisitu (editor NBS TV), Rhuk Shana Namuyimba (NBS TV), Doreen Komuhangi (NBS TV), Bushira Namirimu (NBS TV), among others.
The executive Director Uganda Media Women’s Association, Margaret Sentamu, congratulated all the female journalists for their performance better than men though their woman coverage of 2016 elections was at 10%. She challenged the women journalists to continue challenging what is happen in the media as well as promoting women causes. She also asked upcoming journalists to be professional in their work and not to give up easily their profession however much it is pressing. She called on women journalists to turn the social media into a good tool to enhance their work though its not yet regulated in Uganda.
