According to the director advocacy East and West African region Dr Mina Nakawuka , the centre will help tackle the high HIV prevalence rate in the region.

She says HIV prevalence rate in Masaka region currently stands at 12% above the national average of 7.6%.

Dr. Nakawuka says the medical Centre is to benefit the residents of Lwengo, Masaka and Kalungu where the scourge is very high.

She adds that they are   to cover 80% of the population in these districts carrying out voluntary HIV/AIDS testing and giving out ARVs to those who are positive.

She notes that there target is majorly the prostitutes in these areas, the children and the women.

State minister for Karamoja affairs Babra Nekesa says the ministry is working on rehabilitating the Koblin reception centre after getting mandate from the ministry of gender.

She says the ministry wants the centre functional for skills development before real settlement of street children is made.

The Positions:

The internship positions are unpaid (ECMI is not in a position to cover travel or any other costs related to the internship) and usually last three months.

They will be based at ECMI headquarters in Flensburg or at the local offices in Tblisi, Pristina and Skopje.

You will participate in research and administration of ongoing ECMI projects, under the direction of the responsible ECMI researcher.

Depending on your profile, you can work in the following areas:

Action-oriented projects:

Your profile: Internships in ECMI’s action-oriented projects are aimed at graduate or recent graduate students who have a particular interest in the Balkans, the Western CIS countries (Moldova / Ukraine) or the Caucasus.

We expect a certain flexibility and ability to assist with a variety of tasks based on the needs of the Centre or Regional Office at the time of the internship.

Activities: Your tasks may include conducting targeted background research, tracking media coverage, assisting in the organization of training events and contributing to general office support duties, including updating of databases.

There will of course be some overlap of duties, combining research and administrative tasks.

The working language of ECMI is English; for our Regional Offices, knowledge of local language skills is a plus but not a necessity.

The possibility of also undertaking independent research leading to a paper of publishable quality may be discussed on an individual basis.

International Law Institute Internships: Since its inception, ILI-ACLE has been committed to providing internships to students interested in international trade and development issues in the sub-Saharan region.

The aim is to expose foreign law students to the Ugandan legal system, and to stimulate interaction between Ugandan law students and students from abroad.

Interns are involved fully in the workings of the Centre, and are encouraged to formulate independent projects concerning legal capacity building in developing nations and international commercial law.

The internship is unpaid but the Institute provides assistance in locating housing.

Applicants must currently be enrolled in law school.
