The Katikiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga reveals that tomorrow he will be moving to state house to see that central government give Buganda all the remaining land titles and Mutesa’s Rolls royce that has been kept in the museum for long.

Addressing the lukiiko at Mengo today, the Katikiro mentioned that he has visited the president twice in Rwakitura and Entebbe reminding him about the remaining assets for the kingdom and now urges the loyalists to pray that the kingdom fully receives back her assets. About 80 or so land titles are expected to be given back to the mighty kingdom which the president wants to be transferred into Kabaka’s name.

However members of the lukiiko advise the Katikiro to be very vigilant as he receives the titles as the first titles were very much questioned. They also reported district authorities who have insisted on not returning kingdom buildings and land, which fails kingdom work.

Information from Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi’s palace at Bulange Mengo has it that prominent lawyer Peter Mayiga is planning to resign his post such that he concentrates on laying down strategies of replacing Bokoto central’s (Masaka) MP, Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi. Sekandi is also the Uganda’s Vice President.

The development has come because Jude Mbabali of DP, who used to contest against Sekandi recently announced that he was not going to contest against Sekandi anymore.

Mbabali recently withdrew an election petition against Sekandi something which angered opposition politicians not only Masaka but across the country. Many opposition politicians were heard publicly alleging that Mbabali was bribed to withdraw the case against Sekandi.

Mbabali however denied being bribed by Sekandi. Sekandi too rubbished claims that he bribed Mbabali to withdraw the case against him, instead reasoning that the constituency is to be divided into two soon, and him (Sekandi) will be from different parts (constituencies). But now here comes Mayiga to give more headache to Sekandi.

Buganda was the only kingdom that did not officially give its views on the controversial bill that was hurriedly debated and passed by parliament.

The Chairperson o the parliamentary committee on legal affairs Stephen Tashobya however says Buganda kingdom’s views were taken into consideration as the kingdom was the first to present a petition before Parliament on the proposed bill.

The government after the public outcry introduced 15 amendments to the bill which was hurriedly debated by the legal affairs committee and that of the Gender and Social Development, who wrote a report that recommended the bill to be passed.

The government says the bill is intended to ban the involvement of cultural leaders in partisan politics and to provide for the benefits of cultural leaders.

According to the bill, Traditional leaders will not promote any political party or its activities, promote manifestoes of any political party, render direct support to a party or make statements against government policies and programs.

The bill also provides that a person who knowingly involves a traditional or cultural leader in partisan politics will be liable if convicted to a twelve months prison sentence or a fine.
The duties of traditional and cultural leaders will be limited to promoting and preserving cultural values, norms and practices which enhance the dignity of the people where the cultural leader is recognized.

Mayiga, a senior lawyer however says Buganda kingdom considers the bill as infringing on the rights of traditional leaders and will challenge it in courts of law.
