Following the publication of a photograph of a woman who the editorial team of the New Vision Group believed at the time to be the mother of the new born Buganda prince, Richard Semakookiro, the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has asked all people in Uganda and across the world to stop the talk on the new born prince.

Speaking through his Katikkiro (prime minister), Eng. John Baptist Walusimbi, the Kabaka said that the full details about the new born prince and its mother would be revealed at the right time.

The Kabaka says that since the Katikkiro announced the birth of the new prince, several media houses, radio panelists and people on social networks like facebook have written literature and uttered statements that belittle the traditions, norms and virtues ofBugandakingdom. The Kabaka says that although he is a king a remains an individual who has a right to privacy. He says that it is improper for news publications like the New Vision, Bukedde Newspaper, Bukedde TV and all their sister organisations to write lies and belittling stories about the Kingdom of Buganda and the royal family in Buganda.

On January 24, 2012 the Chief Executive Officer of the New Vision Group, Robert Kabushenga authorised the publication of a photograph of a woman, and stated that she was the mother of Prince Richard Ssemakookiro.

Kabushenga apologised to the audiences across the country and the world at large for the mistake and regreted any inconveniences caused to the woman in the picture.

He stated that this was an error of judgment for which he took full responsibility. The Kabaka through his Katikkiro has said that all the information the New Vision and her sister media houses have been publishing concerning the looks of the mother of prince Semakookiro are false.

Members of Parliament have asked the electricity Regulatory Authority to withdraw the statement issued yesterday, defying an order to halt the charging of new tariffs.

The board of the Electricity Regulatory is appearing before the probe committee into the energy sector that has been overshadowed by reports of corruption.

Members of the committee yesterday questioned the authority’s management over why new electricity tariffs were announced before they could be approved by the board.

The MPs demanded for a copy of the approved minutes which the management failed to produce.

Though the committee directed that the implementation of new tariffs be halted, the regulatory authority hit back, saying Parliament does not have powers to determine electricity tariffs.

The committee chairperson Jacob Oboth Oboth has tasked the ERA authorities to explain the statement issued, which he says belittled the oversight role of Parliament.

MPs Elijah Okupa and Reagan Okumu are demanding a clear explanation and extraction of the statement.

Rukungiri Municipality MP Roland Mugume says Parliament has the right to protect the interests of citizens and warns that the hiking of tariffs could spark protests.

The authority’s Chief Executive Officer Dr. Benon Mutambi denies defying the committee, saying he only implied that retracting implementation of the new tariffs might be difficult.

A number of Women organizations have today come out strongly to defend what they termed as the good record of Parliament Speaker Rebecca Kadaga which they say is being soiled by politicians unhappy about the independent way she is handling parliamentary debates.

Led y the Uganda Women’s Network, the women organsitions said the recent attacks on the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga that she is corrupt are just diversionary and intended to divert the country from serious issues being handled by parliament under the leadership of Kadaga.

The women were reacting to media reports that millions of donor funds were diverted at the time   Kadaga was chairperson of FIDA Uganda.

Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga

The Chief Executive Officer FIDA Dr Maria Nassali told journalists at Parliament that the allegations that her organization lost money is not true and  such allegations were just  malicious to  tarnish the name of Kadaga.

The chairperson of Uganda Women Parliamentary Association Betty Amongi says as women of Uganda they will not allow anyone to derail Kadaga from the cause she has started.

She says it’s surprising for anyone to question the integrity of the Speaker at this time when she is objectively steering parliament and the public has big hope in her to lead the country.

News Release:
18 November 2011 – Kosmos Energy, the Operator of the Teak-3A appraisal well offshore Ghana, in which Tullow Oil plc (Tullow) is a 26.396% partner, last night issued the following press release:

DALLAS, Texas, November 17, 2011 – Kosmos Energy (NYSE: KOS) announced today that the Teak-3A appraisal well has confirmed a northern extension of the Teak discovery on the West Cape Three Points Block offshore Ghana. The Teak-3A well is located approximately 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) north of Teak-1 and was designed to test the potential structural and stratigraphic extension of reservoirs encountered in the original discovery well.

Analysis of well results, including wireline logs, reservoir pressures and fluid samples indicate that the Teak-3A well encountered approximately 35 meters (115 feet) of hydrocarbons in multiple good-quality reservoirs. The analysis identified 13 meters (43 feet) of 36–39 degree API gravity and 22 meters (72 feet) of gas-condensate pay. The hydrocarbon-bearing reservoirs encountered were Campanian and Turonian in age and similar to those seen in the discovery well.

Brian F. Maxted, President and Chief Executive Officer, said “The extension of the Teak discovery is a significant milestone in progressing the appraisal and delineation of this field. We have confirmed the presence of a number of hydrocarbon pools in Teak-3A and significantly extended the productive area of the discovery. While more operational work and technical studies will be necessary to fully define the field, we are very encouraged by the result, which gives further momentum for additional development of the resources discovered on our operated block. Our appraisal and delineation programs continue to generate substantial value for Kosmos, and we look forward to a number of additional near-term appraisal and exploration well results.”

The “Transocean Marianas” semisubmersible drilled the Teak-3A well to a total depth of 3,222 meters (10,571 feet) in 444 meters (1,457 feet) of water. Following the completion of operations at Teak-3A, the rig will be released to another operator. Kosmos anticipates drilling the Teak-4A appraisal well in the second quarter of 2012. Additional appraisal at Teak is being planned for the second half of 2012.

Two executives from Motorcare company appeared before anti –corruption court over charges of conniving with former vice president, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya to be awarded the contract of purchasing BMW motor vehicles which were used during CHOGM.

The Chief Executive Officer Per Lundgren and the Finance director Klaus Karstensen together with Bukenya, have however denied the charges before Justice Paul Mugamba.

It is alleged that the trio committed the offence between July 2006 and November 2009 when Bukenya was the chairperson of the cabinet sub-committee on CHOGM.

Hearing of the matter has been fixed for Friday next week.

Last week, Justice Mugamba declined to commence the trial of the case following the failure by the directors of Motor Care to appear in court in person. Justice Mugamba said Professor Gilbert Bukenya could not stand trial alone in the case in the absence of his co-accused.

He rejected explanations from Edmand Wakida, a lawyer representing Motorcare, and Moses Banturaki, the sales and marketing manager who claimed that they had been authorized to represent the company.

He therefore asked the officials to appear in court in person this morning.
