Maj. General Stephen Tumusiime Rwabantu, Deputy Commander of the Reserve Forces has warned those thinking of destabilizing the peace of Uganda, saying the army is ready to defend the peace of the country at any cost.

Rwabantu made the remarks this morning at UPDF Headquarters in Mbuya, at a ceremony held to decorate the 62 officers that were recently promoted to different ranks, by the Commander in Chief, President Yoweri Museveni.

While addressing the guests, Rwabantu revealed how he is ready to join his boss in the bush again, like was the case in 1981 if the peace and stability of Uganda is threatened.

He threatened: “People who are thinking that they may come up and destablise this country, they are night dreamers because we are still around and we shall protect the peace we brought no matter what it takes.”

Rwabantu went ahead warning that enemies of Uganda shouldn’t think of the bush war heroes as tired and old lot, saying they still have the ability to thwart any threats to the country.

“We are growing old, but we are still able. So if anybody wants to destablise this country, this peace didn’t come on a silver plate. We lost our people in the bush, some of us are casualties but here we are. So we are warning those who keep running around and they think they will destablise they should think twice,” Rwabantu said.

The Reserve Forces boss joins former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Edward Katumba Wamala who made the same threats in February 2018, when he vowed fight against those who wish to unseat President Museveni without using constitutional means.

Katumba who also doubles as State Minister for Works was quoted during the launch of the construction of the Lwanabatya-Nakibanga 18Km road on Bukasa Island, Kalangala District, saying although there have been several calls for Uganda to emulate Zimbabwe that saw Robert Mugabe’s 3 decade rule come to an end by the help of the nation’s army, with a number of opinion leaders calling on UPDF to overthrow President Museveni.

The Member of Parliament for Busiro East, Merdad Seggona, said that if promotion in the UPDF was by merit, Maj. Gen Oketta should not have died at that rank of a major general given his experience and qualification.

The Army’s response was prompted when the MP for Gulu Municipality, Lyandro Komakech, told the committee on human rights chaired by Mitoma district Woman MP, Jovah Kamateka that the people in the north still fear that LRA rebel would regroup and attack them since they are still having bases in the nearby countries.
While responding to the matter, the Chief of Defence Forces, General Edward Katumba Wamala, while appearing in the same committee assured the country that Ugandans should not fear that Joseph Kony’s rebels at any one given time can attack the north again, adding that LRA is a spent force.

He however says that the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) whose operation is based in Democratic Republic of Congo and Western Uganda is alive and the force is on alert to repulse them.
