Symptoms of osteomyelitis are many. They develop and stay for over a relatively some period. Acute osteomyelitis is difficult to determine because people relate it to trauma or a child falling down.

The major signs of osteomyelitis include: pain in the affected bone, tenderness to pressure and arise in temperature over the infected area.

One can also get muscle spasms in the inflamed area, fever and chills which resolve in about 3 days but recur with the swelling. Pus is also produced within the bone resulting in a foul-smelling discharge.

The thigh bone (also called the femur), the lower leg (tibia) or the bone of the upper arm (read humerus) is the most likely sites of infection. This is because in children these bones have particular high blood circulation, making them more susceptible to bacteria invasion.

Children bellow five years in Uganda received extra doses of oral polio vaccine even if they had already been immunized and children aged six months to 59 months received measles vaccine irrespective of the previous immunization status and vitamin A supplementation.

The Mister for health Christine Androa says that it’s now a policy in Uganda for parents to bring their children for routine immunization against the 8 killer immunisable childhood diseases: Polio, Measles, Diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, and haemophilus influenza type B.

The minister says that when all children under five years receive drops of polio vaccine at the same time, the circulation of the virus that causes polio is interrupted. He says that once immunization is properly conducted it will lead to eradication of polio in Uganda. According to the national immunization progamme, June and July rounds of polio immunization exercise would be conducted from house to house.

New evidence shows that HIV cases first appeared in human beings in Cameroonin the last quarter of the 19th century. A new book on the spread of HIV alleges that the virus spread to humans from a simian, Walakira Nyanzi reports.

The book alleges that HIV/AIDS started when a hunter caught an infected chimpanzee for food and the virus entered from the chimpanzee’s blood into the hunter’s body. The name of the hunter is not revealed in the book.

The book further alleges that HIV spread during the time when European countries were partitioningAfrica. The book alleges that HIV/AIDS reached USA and Europe through intermarriages between African slaves and the whites.  The book also notes that other deadly diseases like sleeping sickness, smallpox and syphilis were brought toAfricaby the Europeans.

HIV likely festered in Kinshasa for decades prior to entering into global circulation in the 1970s, the authors say. It alleges that between 1960 and 1970s between 1000 and 2000 residents in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo had become infected with HIV/AIDS. The book notes that many HIV/Aids victims mingled with United Nations workers from Haiti who had come to Kinshasha to work as physicians and civil servants.

HIV/AIDS has killed millions of people across the world. The book was authored by a Washington Post journalist and an Aids researcher atHarvardUniversity; Craig Timberg and Harvard epidemiologist Daniel Halperin. It says that HIV/AIDS broke inCameroonabout 100 years ago. Since HIV/AIDS broke out, the book notes that it has killed millions of people in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lake Victoria (Uganda), Zambia, Botswana and South Africa.
