The Board Chairman of Uganda Aviation School Capt. George Mike Mukula, recently expressed his disappointment in the Civil Aviation Authority for allegedly blocking investment in the sector.

According to Mukula private investment in the Aviation Sector in Uganda is failing to pick up because of the inadequacies and a complacency culture that has riddled the Civil Aviation Authority at all levels.

In a heated response, the director air safety security and economic regulation Samuel Muneeza addressed the media this morning refuting these allegations.

Muneeza said that given air travel is border-less, any compromise will endanger lives and put the country at risk of sanctions.

He says even the nations that would invest in using Entebbe airport would back out if the country was cited in any scandal costing the country lots of money.

Civil Aviation authority officials maintain most Ugandan nationals don’t have the capital to run an airline, or civil aviation school.

Muneeza says even Flight Captain Mike Mukula who understands how the system works is trying to undermine it knowing he does not meet the set standards.

Mukula has revealed intentions to sue the Civil Aviation Authority for a loss of over $ 1.5bn.

Uganda government is preparing to expand Entebbe International Airport due to increasing tourism revenue collection. Tourism is the second largest source of foreign exchange for Uganda after remittances from Ugandans working abroad. Uganda last expanded Entebbe airport 20 years ago.

The Transport and Works Minister, Eng. Abraham Byandala says the plans to expand Entebbe Airport are feasible because of the growth of the tourism industry in Uganda. Byandala says that the ministry is to expand Entebbe airport working on a strategic plan of five years.

The minister also says that Uganda will soon be making her own aviation fuel, and build large oil reserves and an aircraft maintenance center.  Dr. Rama Makuza, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Managing director, says Uganda plans to expand Entebbe airport’s car parking by making it storied and the number of aero plane hangars will be doubled from 11 to 22.

The company announced that Entebbe is their third East African operation with four non-stop weekly flights between Entebbe and Bahrain.

The inaugural flight GF719 from Bahrain International Airport landed in Entebbe International Airport at 15.45 PM on 5th December 2012 carrying a high-level delegation onboard that included airline representatives and members of the media from the Middle East, led by the airline’s Chief Services Officer Mr. Marcus Bernhardt.

The welcome ceremony included a water salute and an official reception by Uganda Civil Aviation Authority Managing Director, Dr. W. Rama Makuza.

Addressing the media Bernhardt said they delighted to re-commence services to Entebbe.

He says with the commencement of our services between Bahrain and Entebbe, they are opening the doors for commercial and tourism opportunities in East Africa, the MENA region and beyond.

Bernhardt adds that they are hopeful this new route will be a success for both passenger and cargo operations as well as facilitating business and leisure traffic between the two countries and beyond.
