The Executive director of Kampala Capital City Authority Jennifer Musisi says that the authority will not cooperate with the new leaders Under the Uganda Taxi Operators and Drivers Association.

This follows fresh elections by the former taxi governing body yesterday that saw William Katumba replacing Hajji Musa Katongole.

Musisi says that the drivers already have leaders at each stage and KCCA will continue to work with these in running the taxi industry.

She also warns the new leaders against resuming the collection of money from drivers.

UTODA has always been run as a company drawing criticism from many drivers who always demanded that it should be turned into an association.

Uganda government is preparing to expand Entebbe International Airport due to increasing tourism revenue collection. Tourism is the second largest source of foreign exchange for Uganda after remittances from Ugandans working abroad. Uganda last expanded Entebbe airport 20 years ago.

The Transport and Works Minister, Eng. Abraham Byandala says the plans to expand Entebbe Airport are feasible because of the growth of the tourism industry in Uganda. Byandala says that the ministry is to expand Entebbe airport working on a strategic plan of five years.

The minister also says that Uganda will soon be making her own aviation fuel, and build large oil reserves and an aircraft maintenance center.  Dr. Rama Makuza, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Managing director, says Uganda plans to expand Entebbe airport’s car parking by making it storied and the number of aero plane hangars will be doubled from 11 to 22.

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in a bid to streamline and put in place performance standards for all garbage collection service providers is to register all people and companies dealing in garbage collection.

We hear that any person or company dealing in garbage must cough one million shillings to get registered. The KCCA director, Jenifer Musisi confirms that the authority is to register the garbage collectors and adds that they are required to register with KCCA detailing their physical address, location and the areas they cover.

They must also indicate their logistical base, equipments, key personel, copies of memoranda, certificate of incorporation, and certificate of registration in case of a CBO. We have also learnt that the registration shall be conducted by the office of the executive director at City hall building.
