Former Uganda army commander, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu has started blowing his own trumpet wherever he goes now days to solicit for peoples’ back up for the post of the FDC president General.

Mugisha Muntu

Mugisha wants to replace Col. Kiiza Besigye as the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president general. There are two people who want to replace Besigye as FDC president. They are opposition leader Nandala Mafabi and Gen. Mugisha Muntu.

Mugisha Muntu told FDC delegates from Ntungamo who met him at FDC head offices in Kampala that he excelled in his duties as an Army Commander of Uganda’s armed forces and he was behind the professionalization of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces.

He says many soldiers in the UPDF salute him wherever they find him because he professionalised their army. Muntu urges the members of FDC to support his candidature saying that he wants to promote FDC the way he promoted Uganda’s army.

Rwandan army generals and officers who were suspended from the force last week by President Paul Kagame and placed under house arrest have spoken out on their ordeal.

Lt. Gen. Fred Ibingira, the chief of staff of the Reserve Forces, Brig. Gen. Richard Rutatina, the military intelligence chief, Brig. Gen. Wilson Gumisiriza, commander of the Rwanda Defence Forces 3rd Division, and Col. Dan Munyuza, head of external intelligence, were placed under confinement on January 18 this year. President Kagame toldUgandajournalists that the officers were arrested over indiscipline.

Kagame did not disclose what acts of indiscipline his military officers were involved in. However the accused army generals have told our informers in Kigali that none of them has ever participated in wrong dealings. The generals have also denied intelligent reports that they were secretly working to over throw the government inKigali.
