The electoral commission chairperson Prof/Eng. Badru Kiggundu has urged Ugandans to visit the website of the electoral commission www.ec.or.ug

Kiggundu while addressing a press conference in Kampalathis morning said that the commission has put a lot of information on the commission website but unfortunately Ugandans don’t visit the site. He says that Ugandans only visit www.ec.or.ug during election period. Kiggundu also gave journalists photocopies of the information he has on the commission’s website. He also said that the electoral Commission established under Article 60 of the Constitution of Uganda, with the mandate of conducting elections and referenda.

Kiggundu caused laughter when he said that the electoral commission of Ugandais ‘a model institution and centre of excellence in election management in East and Central Africa.”

He says that the commission has done a lot in educating and sensitising Ugandan voters on elections and referenda for effective election exercise. The electoral commission ofUganda has been discredited by many Ugandans for organizing unfair polls. The polls in Ugandan many times are rigged in favour of the ruling government.

The voting day for the Jinja Municipality East parliamentary by elections will be held on February 9th this year according to the programme the electoral commission has issued. The nomination exercise is already over.

 The seat went vacant after the High Court nullified the election victory of Nathan Igime Nabeta over voter bribery.

 Over three candidates are eying for the seat. These include Nabeta (NRM), Mwiru Paul (FDC) and Mufumbiro Waiswa (DP).

 The electoral commission chairperson, Eng. Badru Kiggundu says that the commission expects the voters to remain peaceful during and after the exercise.

The voting day for Busiro north parliamentary by elections will be December 1st this year according to the programme the electoral commission has issued. The nomination dates are December 14th and 15th.

The seat went vacant after the High Court nullified his election victory over voter bribery. We have learnt that over four candidates are eying the seat. The former Vice president, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya and his main rival Kasta Hussein Bukenya are some of the candidates.

In the February parliamentary elections, Bukenya had won the race with 17,382 votes while his rival Kasta got 4,953 votes.

The electoral commission chairperson, Eng. Badru Kiggundu says that from November 11th to 21st the commission will be displaying the voters register.
