The governments of Uganda and South Sudan are to form a joint permanent commission to deliberate on the key issues that concern both states.

This follows a newly acquired status for South Sudan as an independent state.

The Permanent secretary in the ministry of foreign affairs, Ambassador James Mugume says that Uganda had signed numerous agreements with Sudan which no longer apply after South Sudan became a sovereign state.

He says that the commission will among other things work on the numerous complaints raised by Ugandan traders operating in South Sudan and vice versa.

The commission will also focus on health, Education and infrastructure as key areas that may help the two countries work together.

President Museveni has said that NRM government can rule Uganda for over 60 years if there is cooperation between the ruled and the rulers.
“No government in the world can exist for a single moment without the cooperation of the people, that is why NRM values the people so much,” Museveni says.
Speaking to NRM supporters from Rukungiri on Monday, Museveni said if the people withdraw their cooperation, the government comes to a standstill.
Museveni, a man considered in the international community as an expert of politics, says that even the most powerful governments like USA, Britain and France cannot rule without the cooperation of the people being ruled.

He says that for any government to sustain its grip on power its people need not to love and respect it.

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) accepts interns from time to time on an ad hoc basis.

The internships are open to graduate or post-graduate students, who have specialized in a field related to UNECE programmes of work, namely: environment, transport, statistics, sustainable energy, trade, timber and forests, housing and land management, population, and economic cooperation and integration.

Occasionally, the Commission has a need for interns with specific skills and will post those internship opportunities.

Internships are offered free-of-charge and without financial remuneration.

The United Nations accepts no legal or administrative liability for interns who are not accorded the status of a United Nations staff member.

All costs connected with an internship, including travel, accommodation1 and insurance, are borne by the intern or his/her sponsor.

An internship carries no expectancy of subsequent employment with the United Nations. Interns are required to submit a certificate of good health and, wherever applicable, to obtain themselves the appropriate visa.

Eligibility criteria:

To qualify for UNECE internship programme, the applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher) at the time of application and during the internship.

Applicants pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages must have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.

Application procedure:

Upon acceptance of the above-mentioned conditions, qualified applicants are requested to send the following documents to the Internship Coordinator, preferably by e-mail (interns[at]unece.org):

  • Curriculum vitae;
  • Completed internship application form;
  • Statement of the particular field of activity in which they wish to work together with the dates they are available.

Applications can be sent all year but candidates are encouraged to apply as early as possible, especially for the summer period.

The applications will be considered by the appropriate divisions of UNECE with a view to matching the applicant’s interests and qualifications with the current UNECE needs.

If as a result a meaningful assignment can be devised, an internship will be offered.
