Police has called upon Journalist to go for military training to enable them attain sustainable security and defense / protective skills which might come in handy during riot covering.

Speaking at a public dialogue on the current situation of human rights defender in Jinja, the Jinja district police liaisons officer Abdullah Mpanuha says this will help journalist being injured or killed during riots and other demonstrations in the country.

Mpanuha says the police don’t intend to harm any human rights defender like journalist but at times they are mistakenly injured.

The former human rights chairperson and UN special rappel tour Mrs. Margrate Sekajja is however opposed to the proposal of taking journalist for military training saying this can’t provide a permanent solution to mistakes and mistreatment and harassment as witnessed in the past walk to work protest organized by the Action for change in collaboration with opposition parties in protest of increased fuel and other essential household items in the country.
