These scholarship grants are intended to support local organisations and secondary schools to facilitate the secondary education of poor and needy Kenyan youth.

The award is for a maximum period of four years. Continuing students requiring less years are eligible and is subject to continued satisfactory performance by the student.

The grants can only be used for school fees (boarding, examination and tuition fees).

Priority will be given to organisations that encourage students’ families and communities to make at least some contribution towards the expenses of the student in order to benefit a greater number of students.

Criteria:

  • Local (Kenyan) Organisations and government secondary schools
  • Legal registration as a not-for- profit organisation (NGO, CBO, Children’s home, public secondary schools etc.);
  • Organisation/school should have been in existence for a duration not less than two years;
  • Focus on poverty alleviation, sustainable development and/or the promotion of civic responsibility
  • Accountable governance in place (for example board, committee that includes community members);
  • A minimum of one year experience in selection and support for secondary Bursaries/Scholarship;
  • Ability to monitor the progress of the students in terms of discipline and performance;
  • Ability to create mentoring program for the students who have received the scholarships;
  • Accounting system that meets the minimum standards that would allow for accountability for grant funds;
  • Secondary schools making applications directly to KCDF, eligibility is limited to public Secondary Schools.
  • For other organisations eligible students may be admitted to any registered/accredited public (Government, church or harambee) secondary school.

During the 2012 grant cycle, the International Elephant Foundation will specifically target six specific themes for funding.

These themes, developed in close consultation with conservation and research specialists, are:

  • Human elephant conflict action;
  • Action to eliminate illegal killing and trafficking of elephants;
  • Community capacity building;
  • Conservation education;
  • Management of elephant populations;
  • Critical diseases – EEHV or Tuberculosis.

Criteria for Funding:

  • Requests for funds must provide thorough information for justification and evaluation of the project and the specific request, including a detailed evaluation of background literature and design/methodology.
  • Projects that designate local/public education/awareness as a significant program outcome must include an evaluation component.
  • Projects must begin in the year that they are applying for funding, (but not before funds are to be awarded) and contain a clearly defined beginning and end.
  • Funds will not be awarded for elements of a project that will have already occurred before awards are made.
  • Budget requests that consist primarily of salary will generally not be considered favorably.

International individuals and organizations are eligible as are students, scientists and institutions.

Students are required to provide faculty advisor approval; the advisor should be a co-investigator on the application and must accept the responsibility of project completion and reporting.

MIRSs are funded by the University with each faculty having a limited number to award.

Each year the University offers about 220 new Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRSs), of which about 100 are normally awarded to international students as MIRSs.

Benefits and conditions:

  • A living allowance of $20,427 per annum

Any living individual or organization that the nominator believes has contributed to the promotion of constructive dialogue and/or relations between faith communities.

Prize Criteria:

The committee invites nominators to consider a wide-range of activities.

A nominee may, for example, have organized members of different faith communities to work toward a common goal; produced a work of art or literature that contributes to or publicizes the importance of interfaith dialogue; or uses a position of authority or power to bring faith communities together.

Nominees may be designated on the basis of a single contribution or a lifetime of contributions.

HEC EGIDE EIFFEL Scholarships: Launched in January 1999 by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministère des Affaires Etrangères), the Eiffel Scholarship is designed to bolster international recruiting by French schools of higher education, at a time when competition to attract top foreign students is growing among developed countries.

HEC reserves the right to submit only those candidates it feels best qualify for the Eiffel Scholarship as the award is particularly competitive and prestigious.

Note that applications from students currently studying outside France will be given priority over those from students already studying in France.

Scholarship Application Eligibility Criteria:

The HEC MBA Program applies on behalf of admitted eligible students. In order to be eligible the candidate must be:

  • Be aged 30 years old or less in the selection year
  • Have a single nationality from a developing country deemed an ’emerging country’ by the French state department, especially those in Asia and Latin America, for example, currently under-represented among the student population in France.

Selection Criteria:

Candidates wishing to apply for the Eiffel Scholarship must write an essay, describing how the scholarship will help them achieve their long-term career goals.

They should explain what they aim to achieve from the MBA program and how they will implement this in their future career.

Amount of Award:

Applications needed at Leopold Senghor Scholarships

Leopold Senghor Scholarships: Recipients of the Leopold Senghor Scholarship are high-quality candidates who meet the HEC MBA standard selection criteria and have demonstrated:

  • Excellence in academic achievements
  • Aptitude in business, finance and management
  • Leadership potential
  • Profound interest in West Africa with a deep commitment to its economic development.

Scholarship Application Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Leopold Senghor Scholarship, applicants must be French speaking African nationals who have lived and been educated mostly in the country.

A need-based award, the Leopold Senghor Scholarship will go to candidates who are financially disadvantaged.

Selection Criteria:

Individuals wishing to apply for the Leopold Senghor Scholarship must write two essays and prove need for financial assistance.

First essay: Applicants must address why earning an HEC MBA would significantly advance their future role in French speaking Africa and why they should be selected as a Leopold Senghor Scholar on the HEC campus (1,000 words).

Second Essay: Demonstrating their acquired knowledge, applicants should pinpoint a specific area of interest relevant to the growth of French speaking Africa and discuss how his or her management knowledge and competences as enhanced by the HEC MBA Program could contribute to the economic, social and global development of the country (1,000 words).

Personal Financial Statement:

Applicants must submit a detailed description of their financial circumstances as well as a cash-flow forecast for 16 months at HEC.
