Beetroot is a source of energy. It contains lots of easily digestible and soluble carbohydrates and sugars. Its red colour tells a lot about its iron content, the juice aids and formation of blood, increases the supply of fresh oxygen to our bodies. It also aids the cardiovascular system to function well.

The crop is high in minerals that fight cancerous cells. People with kidney stones are advised to take it because of its high oxalate levels. Dr Aisha Lukwago of Lukwago herbal research clinic in Kampala says that it is recommendable that beetroot be diluted with other juices e.g. carrots, cucumber or celery.

Wash the vegetables in clean water and scrub it with a tiff brush. Peel, slice and place them in a blender, add a little water and crush it till fine. Sieve it and serve. You can add apples in the place of the carrots. The green beet root top is also edible and juice can be extracted.
