Uganda marks Day against Female Genital Mutilation

Uganda has taken vital steps in stopping Female Genital Mutilation also known as female circumcision, a cultural practice in some communities.

The country joins the rest of the world to mark the day against Female Genital Mutilation on Wednsday.

The day that is meant to promote zero tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation, is marked every 6^th of February and in Uganda it has been marked since 2003.

According to the State Minister for Culture Rukia Nakadama, an estimated 120-140 million women are subjected to the brutal practice, risking the lives of 3 million girls in Africa every year.

She says the Global theme for tomorrow’s function is; Translate Resolutions to Intensify Global Efforts for elimination of FGM.

The national celebrations will run under the theme; Intensifying Efforts to Eliminate Female Genital Mutilation. Celebrations are to be held in Moroto district- one of the areas where the practice is most common.

Spies penetrate FDC, Besigye cries out

FDC National Executive Committee meeting gathered at the party villas in Kampala today to express themselves on a number of issues affecting the main opposition party in Uganda. Top on the agenda was the reports of state operatives that have penetrated into FDC and other opposition parties.

The FDC President Col. Kiiza Besigye has told members in this closed door NEC meeting that on 8^th November this year the FDC chairman for Kampala , Livingstone Kizito told him that spies had penetrated into the party. Day after, other members of FDC also from Kampala wrote to him that it was Kizito who was a government spy and that he frequents statehouse.

A source in FDC has told us that the party NEC has resolved Kizito is no longer responsible for presiding over any matters concerning FDC affairs in Uganda

The FDC national executive committee has also accused Kizito of attempting to close the FDC Kampala office.

UN envoy decries increasing human rights abuses in Uganda

As Uganda joins the rest of the world to commemorate the 63^rd International Human Rights Day, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights defenders Margaret Sekagya has cautioned Parliament on the public order management Bill that is currently before the legal committee of Parliament.

She made the caution at the five day workshop under the theme Claiming Spaces: Tactical Tools for Human Rights Defenders which attracted over 50 human rights activists including journalists and women human rights defenders from across Uganda organized by the Human Rights, the East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Project at Hotel Africana in kampala.

The Bill that seeks to regulate public meetings has been rejected by many organizations with claims that it violates the UN Human Rights laws.

Sekagya advised legislators to make further consultation before passing the Bill into law.

She noted that human rights abuses have been on the increase worldwide mostly-in theArab world where uprisings have taken place.

Bebe Cool, Bobi Wine may have reunion bash

Like people usually say that there is no permanent enemy, singers Bebe Cool and Bobi Wine may patch up their differences and unit.

We are told by members of Bobi Wine’s firebase crew that Balamu enterprises is in talks with the two music stars to accept to iron out their differences and stage a show together.

We hear Balamu told Bebe and Bobi Wine that once they accept to make a reunion show thousands of people will attend it thus making millions of Uganda shillings.

Balamu was persuading the two music rivals to accept to have the show on the New Year’s Day. However it is still hard to believe that Balamu’s attempt will work out because Bebe Cool recently called Bobi Wine’s wedding as a mere show off something which annoyed the Ghetto president so much.
