President Museveni has directed police to block walk to work activities whenever the force gets wind of it in any part of Uganda.

The OC Kasangati police barracks Francis Tumwesigye says that he is on standing orders from above deploy at Col. Kiiza Besigye’s home whenever he receives information that the Colonel is planning to walk on foot. The police yesterday deployed heavily near Besigye’s home after receiving false reports that Besigye was plotting to resume walk to work campaigns.

Security sources told our informer that the leaders of Activists for Change popularly known as A4C have received money from donors to resume walk to work campaigns. The police say that some of the activists in A4C rob peoples property and destroy public properties.

Makerere University students have violently demonstrated on the roads around their institution of learning because they have not been paid their faculty allowances and internship allowance.

The demonstration made the police to heavily deploy at all the gates of Makerere University, schools, colleges and offices for fear that the rioting students would burn them.

The striking students demanded their Vice Chancellor, Prof. Venansious Baryamureba to explain why the university has not paid them their allowances. The striking students abused the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Makerere University in charge of finance, Prof Stevens Tickodri-Togboa when he requested them to call off the strike. They likened him to a chimpanzee while others described him as a ‘silly’ person.’ The professor politely kept quiet.

The outgoing guild president ofMakerereUniversity, Dennis Oneka confirms the strike. Oneka also requested the students to call off the strike as the university looks into their problems.

The Uganda police force is set to start growing its own food due to high cost of food across the country. We have heard that the inspector general of police Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura has instructed the force’s director for research, Julius Sharita to find land on which all police officers and men will be required to grow own food.

According to sources, Sharita working on advice from Kayihura is touring idle prison land across the country and if found Kayihura will ask the prison heads to let the police use it for cultivation purposes.

The police are currently in deep financial crisis because much of their budget has been used up, especially in querying walk to work protests.

Sharita tells this reporter that the more number of policemen the police deploy to control the demonstrators the more food the force buys. Police commissioners Abongo Apio and Sabuni Mwesigye and Samuel Luvumba confirm that Kayihura has instructed police to start growing own food.

Uganda Peoples Defence Forces have started a training programme to prepare its soldiers for deployment to the African Union United Nations hybrid operation in Darfur (UNAMID).

According to a source in the ministry of defence, Uganda will deploy in Darfur early next year as per UNAMID programme.

We are reliably informed that UNAMID has requested Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda to deploy soldiers in Darfur on a peace keeping mission.

As you read this Rwanda has also started training her soldiers to be deployed in Darfur. Sources in Kampala, Bujumbura and Kigali tell our investigative desk that Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda will each send 250 soldiers. However Uganda and Rwanda will send addition 140 experts in air force each.

Efforts to get a comment from Lt. Col. Felix Kulayigye, who is Uganda’s army spokesman, were futile by press time.
