University of Westminster offers fully funded scholarships for developing countries students. The funds are awarded to the students to pursue master’s degree in the university. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, financial need and development potential. Eligible students must submit their applications till 31 May 2013.

Scholarship Description: These generous awards are aimed at fully funding you if you are from a developing country and will study a full-time Masters degree at the University.The University’s deposits scheme for overseas students means that if you hold an unconditional offer you will be required to make a payment of £4,000 before you are given a student visa support letter, which may be used to apply for your visa for entry to the United Kingdom.

PhD Scholarships for Candidates from Developing Countries: The Special Research Fund of Ghent University allocates yearly a certain budget for students from developing countries in order to obtain a PhD at Ghent University.

The candidate has to be a national of a country on the VLIR-UDC country list and have permanent residence in a developing country.

The total duration of the scholarship may never exceed four years. Before the end of the second year the Ph.D. scholar must write an application for extension.

Generally, two-thirds of the research is conducted at the local institution and one-third in Belgium.

The scholarship holder is free to choose the periods of his/her stays in Belgium and in his/her home country.

For practical reasons, the scholar is obliged to travel to Belgium at the start of the scholarship period.

The scholar receives a monthly allowance of €1,085 or more while residing in Belgium, and of €542 or more while residing in his/her home country, depending on the family situation.

The funding also covers tuition fees, travel expenses and bench fees.

Up to five scholarships are available to candidates from developing Commonwealth countries to undertake a one-year taught Master’s programme of study at the University of Leeds.

Only students from developing commonwealth countries can apply for the MSc Sustainability Scholarships.

Fees (international rate), Maintenance allowance, return airfare.

Up to 5 awards available University wide.

Courses eligible

  • MSc Sustainability (Environment and Development), MSc Sustainability (Business, Environment and Corporate Responsibility),
  • MSc Sustainability (Climate Change),
  • MSc Hydrogeology.

Entry criteria and application form.

Applicants should:

a. be nationals of (or permanently domiciled in) a Commonwealth developing country, and not currently be living or studying in a developed country

b. hold a first degree at either first or upper second class level;

c. be aware that sponsoring institutions are asked to give priority to candidates under the age of 30 but may give reasons for wishing to make exceptions for older candidates

d. be sufficiently fluent in English to pursue the course

e. have not previously studied for one year or more in a developed country

f. not be employed by a government department (at national level) or a parastatal organisation (employees of universities are normally acceptable, however)

g. be able to confirm in writing that neither they or their families would otherwise be able to pay for the proposed course of study

h. be willing to confirm that they will return to their home country as soon as their period of study is complete

VLIR Scholarships: Each year, a number of VLIR Scholarships are available to students of developing countries, giving high-potential students the opportunity to study in Belgium.

These scholarships cover all costs.

Candidates should :

  • Have a study history in agreement with the academic admission requirements of the programme
  • Not have reached the age of 35 at the moment of their application
  • Be a resident of a developing country
  • Not have studied before in an industrialised country have at least two years of work experience
  • Be proficient in English (speaking and writing).

When English has not been the language of instruction, proficiency in English has to be proven with a TOEFL- or equivalent certificate

  • Submit carefully completed VLIR-application forms, accompanied with all documents requested before the deadline to the VLIR-Scholarship Administration of the VLIR-UDC office in Brussels.

Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund Scholarships: Each year, the MMMF awards grants to women from developing countries engaged in graduate studies in the United States or Canada.

The applicants must be at least 25 years of age, must have demonstrated a commitment to work for the benefit of women and children in the developing world, and must plan to return to their countries within two years of receiving the grant.

The following documents are required and must be mailed together to the MMMF, postmarked no later than February 29:

  • Your most recent transcript (available from your college or university Registrar’s Office)
  • A copy of your Registration
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation

Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund Scholarships Grant amount: About US$11,000

For study in: USA and Canada

Not renewable:

Must be 25 years and above.

Must be a national of a developing country that is currently eligible to borrow from the World Bank.

Cannot be a U.S. Green Card holder.
