The parliamentary health committee report released to parliament on public health facilities in Kampala district and eastern Uganda has exposed rot in performance of the ministry of health over health service delivery to public.
While presenting to parliament a health report the chairperson of the parliamentary health committee who is the MP for Bukuya county Dr.Micheal Bukenya ,noted that 60% of health workers do not have uniforms and as result some people are masquerading as health workers and extorting money from patients.
MPs reported that such cases are most common in Iganga General Referral hospital and recommended that the ministry to  health to procure uniforms of health workers tagged with their names to minimize extortion of money from patients by fake health workers. The committee observed that medicine and medical supplies stock out as
a national problem and in most cases is caused by some individuals who stole drugs and sell it on black market for their selfish benefit, the committee hence asked that the ministry of  health to have tough sanctions against those engaged in the theft medicines in hospitals.

The poor state of Iganga hospital

The Health committee also recommends for increase of health workers lunch allowances. The MPs observed that since 1996, health workers continue to receive 66,000 and 44,000 shillings for Doctors and nurses respectively as
their monthly lunch allowances yet the cost of living and inflation has gone up.
The committee members recommended that lunch allowance for nurses, Doctors and other health workers be revised to 288,000 shillings to cater lunch at a unit cost of 12,000 shillings.

Doctors' StetoscopeThe minister of Health Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye says that government should have an intervention to cut on the number of health experts running abroad for better pay. Dr. Tumwesigye says that the ministries of public service and finance should speed up the law establishing the salaries remuneration board that will remunerate health experts in a better way required basing on their professional risk. He says that the number of health experts leaving the country of their origin to work abroad its not only in Uganda but in many African countries. He added that the health experts need to be working and living in a conducive environment so as they love staying at health facilities in the country.

Reports in the country show that government insists to export 241 Ugandan health workers to Trinidada and Tobago though the county’s health facilities have less health workers.

Doctors at Mulago hospital are reporting steady progress made by the conjoined twins who await an operation to separate them.

Two weeks ago, the doctors announced that the conjoined twins needed to jointly weigh at least 10kgs before the operation can be carried out.

The babies’ mother Rossette Tusiime says the twins now weigh 5.8kgs, up from 5.4 kilograms two weeks ago.

Tusiime attributes the weight increment to constant breastfeeding and the special diet recommended for her by the medical personnel.

Scans carried out earlier revealed that the twins are joined at the abdomen and share the liver.

Medical experts explain that cases of Siamese twins are a result of failure by identical twins to separate at conception stage.
