President Museveni and his government are to build a new prison meant to decongest Luzira Prison in Mityana district. The sources in government tell us that the new prison will cost President Museveni and his government over 8 million shillings.

Uganda Prison’s boss, Johnson Byabashaija says that the new prison will address the issue of over congestion at Luzira prison and asked the citizens to support the programme.

According to the sources in the ministry of Justice, the new prison will accommodate hardcore criminals, rebels, and capital offenders. He says that the government is also planning to build other prisons in Kasanje and Kigo.

We have been told that the government is planning to work with donors and the private sector in constructing these prisons.

President Museveni has directed police to block walk to work activities whenever the force gets wind of it in any part of Uganda.

The OC Kasangati police barracks Francis Tumwesigye says that he is on standing orders from above deploy at Col. Kiiza Besigye’s home whenever he receives information that the Colonel is planning to walk on foot. The police yesterday deployed heavily near Besigye’s home after receiving false reports that Besigye was plotting to resume walk to work campaigns.

Security sources told our informer that the leaders of Activists for Change popularly known as A4C have received money from donors to resume walk to work campaigns. The police say that some of the activists in A4C rob peoples property and destroy public properties.

We have heard that former Makindye East MP, Michael Mabikke has completely cut close ties with FDC because he is uncomfortable with the way FDC relates with other parties. To put it bluntly Mabikke is quitting the whole IPC coalition which brings together FDC, CP, Jeema and Suubi, a political pressure group.

A source in Mabikke’s party, the Social Democratic Party tell us that Mabikke is bitter because all members of opposition parties are being harassed by the ruling government but when FDC leaders go to human rights organisations, they report there that the government is harassing their supporters without specifying that even SDP supporters are harassed.

We hear that Mabikke wants SPD to start his own pressure on government such that he too can go to donors and tell them that his supporters are being persecuted like the way Col. Kiiza Besigye reportedly does to get donor funding.

When contacted Mabikke explained that SDP is an independent party and it is free to carry out its activities without leaning on FDC.

We have landed on shocking information that the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) of Col. Kiiza Besigye has run broke and most of its workers have not been paid their wages and salaries for the last three months.

A source at FDC intimated to our informer that Besigye’s party has not received donor funding since March. We are told that some leading donors of opposition parties in Uganda are not happy by the way FDC performed in last February general polls. Besigye has unsuccessfully contested thrice for president.

A source sitting on FDC National Executive Committee tells us that the money the party has been basing on to run its activities has been coming from Besigye as an individual.

It further explains that some of the donors give Besigye money as an individual and he is free to divert it to party activities or not. One of the leading FDC sponsors is conservative parties in US and Europe.

It has emerged that representatives of donors in Uganda secretly visited the FDC leader, Col. Kiiza Besigye on Monday night at his home in Kasangati.

Dr. Kizza Besigye at a press conference

The donors according to sources in FDC wanted to discuss with Besigye the effects of walk to work protests on the economy, government and the country in general.

The representatives of donors according to sources included those from Norway, USA, Canada, England, and Germany among other super power countries.

Besigye told the donors that he is not the one leading the strikes. He told them that the strike are being ran by a pressure group called Activists for Change and that all people who are suffering under the NRM regime are freely participating in them.

Besigye further said that the constitution of Uganda provides that citizens are free to peacefully demonstrate as long as they don’t harm people who are not participating.

Besigye narrated to the donors all the harassment the NRM government has been reportedly inflicting on opposition supporters around the country. The donors who arrived at Besigye’s home at around 5:00pm left at around 8pm.
