East African Crime Investigation Detective (CID) society chiefs meeting in Kampala have asked regional government to consider increased funding for boarder security.

Opening the meeting at the imperial Royal Hotel this Wednesday 1st June 2011, the inspector general of police Major General Kale Kanyaihura called for more collaboration among the east African member states if the fight of both domestic and transnational crimes is to be successfully done.

He sighted Terrorism, Drug and human trafficking as some of the major cases of crime that have plagued the region.

With budget presentation set for next Wednesday, the police chief is hoping for a reasonable amount of funding are set aside for investment in boarder scanners and computerized system of recording all migration details.

Speaking at the same meeting, the East African community deputy Secretary General Beatrice Kiraso has decried the disparities in legislation calling for immediate harmonization of enabling laws to reduce crime levels within the region.
