In accordance with Article 101(1) of the constitution, President Yoweri Museveni will tomorrow make his annual State of the Nation Address, during which he will highlight the economic, social and political state of the country. The occasion will also be used to officially open the first session of the Tenth parliament under the new Government that was sworn in recently.

As it has been the case in previous State of the Nation Addresses, President Museveni is expected to highlight the state of the economy, citing star performing sectors, and the structural bottlenecks hampering Uganda’s economy.
We talked to some MPs about what they would expect in the state of the Nation address by the President and likely areas that he will address and they had mixed reactions on the matter.
Palisa District Woman MP Agnes Ameede in her reaction said issues like value change must take the Centre stage, Palisa District being a rice growing area and the Youth who are unemployed can benefit by creating jobs. Bukoto East MP Florence Namayanja said from the previous State of the Nation address has been recycling the same things but noted that this time round is waiting to hear something new from the President.

The President is also expected to inform the country on the priority economic sectors his new government is set to focus on, as part of Uganda’s economic Vision 2040 which is aimed at turning Uganda into a middle income country.
