Cardiff University is offering full and partial scholarships for students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance and potential. Two full scholarships are available self-funding overseas student, which will cover the cost of course fees for the International Foundation Programme. Applicants for the International Foundation Programme scholarships must have either a conditional or unconditional offer and must have accepted Cardiff University as their choice for study during the 2013/14 academic year. The deadline for applications is July 31st 2013.

Study Subject(s):  The International Foundation Programme is available from September 2013 in the following subjects: Business, Engineering and Health & Life Sciences.
Course Level: This scholarship is available for pursuing international foundation courses at Cardiff University in UK.

Eligibility:- You must be confirmed as an Overseas Student for fee paying purposes (this information is contained in your offer letter).
-You must fully complete the application form with the supporting statements as directed.
-Applicants for IFP scholarships must have a conditional or unconditional offer and must have accepted their offer by Midnight (GMT) Friday 31st July 2013.
-After this date, applicants have until Midnight (GMT) Thursday 16th August 2013 for their offers to be changed to unconditional –applications where the status is not unconditional after this time will not be considered.
-Scholarships are to be used for academic year 2013/14 only and cannot be used for 2014/15 entries. If you are awarded a scholarship and wish to defer your entry to the University, you will lose your scholarship and will need to re-apply again in the following year.
-These scholarships are only available to self-funding students. Students who are in receipt of full funding from a sponsorship body (such as their home country’s Government, charity or a private organisation) are not eligible to apply.
-Students must satisfy certain financial requirements as part of their visa application for study in the UK and students should not be solely relying on receiving a scholarship to meet these.
-If a student withdraws/is requested to withdraw from study before completing the IFP Course or does not complete the IFP course at Cardiff University they are responsible for repaying all monies received from the International Scholarship award unless there are extenuating circumstances.
-IFP scholarships do not include interruption of study as part of the fund. If students are required to resit a year of study, then they will not receive further funding for additional years.
-Winners must ensure that they maintain a satisfactory academic record.

Selection Criteria: The selection panel at Cardiff University will be considering some important criteria when assessing your application form and these are outlined in the supporting statement headings.
-Academic merit: We require students to demonstrate their academic successes, whilst also illustrating other areas of personal development, such as learning gained via work experience, voluntary work or extra-curricular learning experiences.
– Contribution to society: We will look positively upon applications from students who demonstrate a keen awareness of the contribution they can make to the development of their community, society or nation as a result of obtaining their qualification from Cardiff University.
-Ambassadorial potential: Upon your graduation, you will be considered an Ambassador of Cardiff University, and we will look favorably upon applicants with the ability to represent Cardiff University in a diplomatic and professional manner in their future careers.

Notification:  Successful applicants who have already accepted an unconditional offer will be informed as soon as possible after the July deadline above. Successful applicants whose offers have still to be unconditional will be notified as soon as possible after the August deadline stated above. If an applicant has been selected as a reserve candidate, then they will be informed of this as soon as possible after the deadlines stated above.Unsuccessful applicants will be notified as soon as possible after 16th August. Unfortunately, they will be unable to provide feedback on unsuccessful applications.

Master of Water Resources Engineering Scholarships: The Master programme of Water Resources Engineering is a two-year study programme with a total study load of 120 ECTS, equally spread over the 2 years.

First year consists of courses in:

Advanced Mathematics for Water Engineering, Statistics for Water Engineering, Irrigation Agronomy, Aquatic Ecology, Hydraulics, Surface Hydrology, Groundwater Hydrology, and water Quality Assessment, Monitoring and Treatment; and workshops in Hydrological Data Processing and GIS, and Hydrological Measurements and Remote Sensing.

Second year courses:

Consists of a common core of 2 courses (Systems Approach to Water Management, and Social, Political, Institutional, Economic and Environmental Aspects of Water Resources), an integrated project design (arid or humid case) and a Master thesis.

In addition, the student selects three optional courses from the following list: Surface Water Modelling, Groundwater Modelling, River Modelling, Urban Hydrology and Hydraulics, Soil Water Modelling, Irrigation Design and Management, Advanced Aquatic Ecology, and any course relevant to water resources engineering, subject to approval by the Programme Committee.

Admission requirements:

  • Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (civil engineering, bioscience engineering, environmental engineering, or any other equivalent engineering degree) or Sciences (biology, geography, geology, etc).
  • Applicants not belonging to a member country of the European Higher Education Council should hold a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year university programme with a minimum grade of second class upper division.
  • Holders of a Master degree equivalent to the two-year Master degrees awarded by the Faculties of Engineering and Bioscience Engineering at K.U.Leuven or the Faculty of Engineering at the V.U.B. may be directly admitted to the second year. The equivalence of foreign degrees is evaluated on an individual basis.
  • Good command of spoken and written English (applicants of non-native speaking English countries should have a TOEFL score on the written test of at least 550; 213 on the computer-based (CBT) test; 79-80 on the internet based (IBT) test or an equivalent language test).
