All roads led to Entebbe Municipality last Saturday when the area MP elect, Muhammad Kawuma was celebrating his reelection victory.

Kawuma invited among others, the Katikkiro of Buganda, JB Walusimbi, Norbert Mao of the Democratic Party, Col. Kiiza Besigye of FDC and MPs Betty Nambooze, Ibrahim Nganda, and Meddie Nsereko (Kampala Central) among others to attend his reelection victory.  And many did not disappoint as they turned up in big numbers.  According to sources in his party, the Democratic Party, Kawuma’s party cost about 200 million shillings.

Kawuma was on Monday sworn in as MP during a special seating of the August house. Kawuma reclaimed the MP seat last month after his earlier election victory was quashed by the high court over election irregularities. But he got more votes in the by-election.

Forum for democratic Change is refuting claims that it’s to withdraw its Entebbe Municipality By-Elections candidate Wilberforce Sseryazi in support of DP’s Muhammed Kawuma.

Media Reports last week reported that FDC had agreed with DP to field one candidate to defeat NRM’s Patience Mubanguzi.

Addressing a press briefing at party offices in Najjanankumbi, FDC deputy publicity Totelebuka Bamwenda says the party has never received any formal communication or meting with DP on issues regarding the coming Entebbe by-election. He insists their candidate Wilberforce Sseryazi is still contesting in this election.

However, Bamwenda says chances are still on for the talks if any party wants FDC to withdraw its candidate.

Meanwhile, DP’s Muhammed Kawuma told journalists at DP offices last week that his party had already talked to FDC to withdraw its candidate because he is not popular in the area.

In a related development, Bamwenda called on all political parties to desist from the idea that there regions where a given political party is popular so that its candidates cannot be opposed.

The High court in Kampala has nullified the election of Muhammad Kahuma as the member of parliament of Entebbe municipality and ordered fresh elections.

Justice Andrew Basaija in his ruling said the elections of Entebbe municipality were not conducted in compliance with the provisions and principles of electoral laws and affected the results of the elections in substantive manner.

Kahuma was sued by his political rival Patience Mubangizi of the national resistance movement (NRM) on grounds that the elections were marred with a lot of election malpractice and irregularities that made them not free and fair.

Court has ruled that electoral commission failed to collect and safe guard the results from 12 polling stations which were not included in the vote tilled.

The judge observed that 8200 votes left out had substantial effect on the final results.

Justice Basaija in his ruling ordered fresh elections for the municipality and the electoral commission has been asked to pay the costs of the suit. Kahuma was declared the winner of the election with 10842 while Mubangizi followed with 8973 votes.
